I just want to say that bluetooth hearing aids are the absolute bees knees

I've had NHS hearing aids for five years and they were fine. I recently went back for a re-test and asked for an upgrade. My new ones have a few more bells and whistles (actually whistles is probably not the right word for hearing aids!).
The bluetooth though, is just brilliant. I have always struggled with earbuds or headphones and the phone. The sound just seems to go straight into your head and no bulky ear buds just tiny tubes. I can hear on the phone, I can hear on Teams meetings and I'm listening to music so much more.

Same here! They're life changing. I still haven't figured out a few things though - how to answer a call by touching my hearing aid, that sort of thing, but generally they're fantastic.

Parsleymint · 16/08/2025 16:23

I don't get many calls, but I tested it out with DH ringing me. Not only could I answer it by touching the button but it has a microphone and picks up your voice. Then last week I got a call while driving. The phone was in the back of the car but I could answer and the caller could hear me.

Yes! I love mine.

I can put my phone on listen live and point it in the direction of a conversation and hear what’s being said at the end of the room. Game changer.

Parsleymint · 16/08/2025 17:34

@Ekkekkkeekkkekk that sounds great, mine isn't that clever.
I haven't yet had chance to try restaurant settings. That's something I've always struggled with. Especially family trips to cramped noisy restaurants.

I totally agree! They’ve transformed my life!

wimonnzy · 16/08/2025 17:46

Another bells and whistles hearing aid user here. Transformed my life completely.

And I can take them out when the little scamps next door are squealing on the trampoline lol, silence then. 😊

caramac04 · 16/08/2025 17:49

Absolutely love mine. I love listening to BBC Sounds and getting phone calls direct to my ears.

Letstheriveranswer · 16/08/2025 17:50

I have NHS Bluetooth ones too and they are great for calls and music etc. But I didn't know I could answer the phone from them, so thanks for posting about this!

Still struggle in cafés etc though, none of the settings seem to help that much.

elliejjtiny · 16/08/2025 17:52

My 12 year old has nhs Bluetooth hearing aids too, they are brilliant.

Cheguevarahamster · 16/08/2025 17:53

They are fucking amazing. I love mine.

Could I ask what make/model these are please? My husband has hearing aids and they seem useless

Do you have a specific App to do this?

LivelyMintViper · 16/08/2025 18:09

Can I please ask how much they cost?

Mine were free NHS Bluetooth ones. I’d had non bt prior and these are much better.
I know people who have paid over £4k for similar aids - rechargeable rather than replace batteries. (My batteries are free too. I get them from gp surgery)
You can pay ££££££ but I’m very happy with my nhs aids.

I recently upgraded mine, nearly £4k.

They're Phonak (as are my old ones) but the app didn't work at all, the pairing with 'phone & TV was flaky - cutting out in the middle of a call or programme.
Took them back. & got a refund with no questions asked; makes me think the audiologist knew there were problems with the new model.

Edited to add my old ones work just fine - no Bluetooth problems at all.

wizzywig · 16/08/2025 19:36

My son has these and they are life changing aren't they? He can download films and what not and watch them.

Sarahpainting · 16/08/2025 19:36

I love mine too. I’ve never listened to so much music, podcasts, radio etc I’m never bored. I’ve given my air pods to DH.

Specsavers have a 100 day money back guarantee as I got some, didn’t get on with them so returned them to try a different pair and the 100 days reset, still didn’t get on with them so took them back for a full refund! Completely no quibble (he didn’t even check the box had them in 😂)

DreamingofRain2 · 16/08/2025 19:45

I’ve had mine 6 years from the nhs it’s transformed me working from home as I do my whole job via teams etc and I can be an active participant in meetings. I Had to go to a few face to face meetings in busy offices recently and it was so tiring. Been trying to
convince my mum for years to get hers changed as she loves music and the clarity was so much better than the old ones. I was supposed to be due an upgrade but they just changed our nhs supplier which caused chaos so no idea what’s happened now as I didn’t fit into any of their service groups of profound deaf, u18 +sen or over 60, so who knows what happens now!

BrendaSmall · 16/08/2025 19:50

Omg!
i want some!
I used to have a hearing test every 3 years and have new hearing aids every time!
Im definitely going to be chasing up an appointment as I’ve not had one for ages!
Also we can’t use earphones at work even though some people do, obviously not me as I can’t use them, but no one will know with the hearing aids!

Mine are Phonak and cost zero on the NHS via local hospital audiology. Batteries, tubes and domes are all free as well. I wouldn't want rechargeable because you have to remember to charge while batteries last a week easily.
There's an app to change settings accordingly to background noise ( hence "restaurant" setting.

My audiology don't review you unless you ask. I suspect they only give out basic ones at first because so many people get aids and don't use them. It was a thread on here that prompted me to ring up and ask for an upgrade.
