just been for my pill at clinic and told due to my weight/family history of diabetes i should consider coming off it/and or losing weight within the next 4 years other wise they will NOT give me it!

Soooo..dont want more children, so spoke about sterilization..apparently for a woman its more tricky and not as guaranteed(he said more woman fall pg after sterilization than those on pill!), he said male St' is better , safer, less complicated(now all i have to do is convince dp!!)...so he gave me a leaflet of alternatives..he 'pushed' this contraction that looked like a fishing hook, that released a hormone over 5-10 years(diff ones) was it coil??, said was 'almost' as good as pill..but i want 100% proof non e of those little swimmers will get through!

Sooo. what do you use, what wouldnt you use, did you sue something and fall pg???

HELP!

no probs so far.

don't like the idea of all those hormone things.

tinglers are def. more fun!

LittleMyDancing · 29/05/2008 21:19

um, crossing our fingers and hoping, and...ahem...withdrawal.....(don't laugh)

but we're not that bothered if we have another DC!

Mirena Coil.

Funnily enough I have an appointment next week to talk about sterilisation, but I am in two minds whether to cancel it.

ButterflyBessie · 29/05/2008 21:29

Abstention, it works a treat

Pinkchampagne · 29/05/2008 21:34

I take cerazette, which is a mini pill. It is proving a bit of a nightmare though, as my periods are all over the place.
I hadn't had to use anything for years as ex H had had a vasectomy, but now I am with a new partner, I have to go back down the contraception road again!

NomDePlume · 29/05/2008 21:34

None, I am unable to use hormonal contraception because I have a strong family history of cerebrovascular problems and I also suffer severe migraines (inc focal migraines).

Withdrawal for the past 5+ years. No 'accidents' yet. We were of the opinion that if it happens, it happens but we are not actively trying for a baby.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure that I'm done having babies now and so I have an appointment on Thurs of next week to discuss the copper coil (the non-hormone one).

I'm not ready for sterilisation, plus the fact that no surgeon with half a brain would perform it on me (26 years old). The coil is the next best thing for me, non permanent but reliable and fairly long-term.

somersetmum · 29/05/2008 21:35

Vasectomy; absolutely no hassle for me

mankyscotslass · 29/05/2008 21:45

He got the snip, totally painless and stress free (for me)

emma1977 · 29/05/2008 23:04

Currently taking cerazette (mini pill) and breastfeeding.

I have previously used the combined pill for 7 years and then depo-provera injection for 2 years before trying for ds.

You would be suitable for any type of progesterone-based contraception or a copper coil or sterilisation (either male or female).

If you want something reliable, not daily, very effective and reversible I would recommend either a coil (hormonal or copper) or an implant. Depo injection is also an option but could cause you to gain more weight (not great).

bellavita, according to the nurse and doc, female sterilization is less protective than the pill!!, so id steer clear

Copper coil - it's fab!

PinkPussyCat · 30/05/2008 14:51

Mirena devotee here

No periods and don't have to remember to take anything - fab!

naughtynoonoo · 30/05/2008 14:53

Copper Coil

BeachBunni · 30/05/2008 14:57

Hate to say it but withdawal method too. Or the 'hope and pray method' as I call it. Seriously though, it's worked for us for 8 years and I only got pregnant when we wanted to and worked that month so we don't seem to have any fertility problems. I can't take anything with hormones myself as it causes my blood pressure, I'm allergic to condoms and the thought of coils gives me the shivers!

BeachBunni · 30/05/2008 14:58

that is causes my blood pressure to rise
