We have just noticed this lump on my son’s back. Image attached hopefully. Any ideas? I’ve reverse google searched and not had much luck. We’re on holiday at the moment but have booked him a GP appt for Tuesday. It’s not sore

I would draw a ring around the edge of the redness now so you can see if it is spreading. If it spreads much more tonight I would contact 111 and try and find an out of hrs dr. Cellulitis can be nasty and quickly at times

Cellulitis. Trademark orange peel skin. Needs antibiotics

I agree, definitely looks like Cellulitis

Starlight7080 · 15/08/2025 18:05

Is it hot to touch? Good plan drawing the line around it.

No, not hot to touch. And he’s absolutely fine in himself

Where on holiday were you, OP?

Does anyone else in the family have anything like it?

JDM625 · 15/08/2025 18:20

What country have you been in OP?

Letsnotupsettheapplcart · 15/08/2025 21:08

We were only in Tenerife and no one else has anything like this. Hoping GP will be able to shed some light tomorrow

I had cellulitis from an insect bite in Spain. Initially UK doctor gave me a paste to draw the infection out (it was much much smaller than the one pictured).

Then there was a small crater in my thigh when it came out which then seemed to be getting wider. Popped into A&E and ended up admitted and on IV antibiotics for 4 days over a bank holiday weekend. Was not expecting that!

Any sign of it spreading I would go to A&E.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to give me your thoughts. My son has been seen by a GP this afternoon, albeit by video consultation. The lump has gone down a lot today and it looks a lot better. He seems to think it is a cyst and we’re going to try and get a face to face appt next week. Unless my son becomes poorly he’s not concerned.
Thanks again and seems to be nothing to be overly concerned about
