I don't want to take chemicals (and pee them out into the water supply) (they send me bonkers and make me depressed anyway)

DH doesn't want the snip, neither do I

I don't want anything inserted into me

I have a latex allergy and DH hates condoms anyway

Where does that leave us...

Playing is great but sometimes you just want a good old fashioned s**g getting somewhat desperate now

Nevermind, just had a look on the NHS Scotland website. Turns out it's just being piloted in Lothian area just now so not available generally. But maybe in the next couple of years? Maybe DH will get fed up with condoms before then and go for it himself!

Essure is being offered on the NHS at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, Sugar .

But it's entirely possible if you're really keen on it to see if the GYN who is performing them (I forget her name but if you get on bbc.co.uk website and search 'female sterilisation' her name will come up) is looking for patients.

Someone on another board I'm on had it done in London and has been pleased with it.

A word of warning, though: it is NOT reversible and you need to use alternative contraception for 3 months after having it.

But although the training may cost more at the outside, the technology is basically there and in the long run it's far cheaper for the NHS than the method being used now.

Can't you get over your horror of an IUD? I had one for a while- til it fell out, lol- but I was squeamish- then when it is was in, I forgot all about it.

Hi there Pheebe, I have the exact same difficulties as you. We do want another baby in the future so permanent fixes are out and I don't like taking hormones. That said I have gone back on the pill purely out of desperation as there is nothing else. I really don't want to get pg for at least a year (have 2 dd's 17 months apart and now the youngest is 20 months I feel almost normal!). I'm taking Yasmin and have been on it for 7 months but now feel constantly like I'm premenstrual, am v tired and snappy and tense. Could this be the pill? I would really like to come off it - I may think about Persona.

Sorry I'm not much help, just wanted you to know this seems a common quandary! I tell you DH will be off for the snip after number three I can tell you!!

Sugarmagnolia · 02/06/2008 20:51

thanks Expat -will definitely keep that in mind!

I'm so pleased to see this thread. DH and I have the same dilemma (although not the latex allergy - just both hate condoms). I'm 39 weeks pregnant with no. 4 and whilst we will probably stop there we don't want irrevocably to commit to that decision. We have the same difficulties/objections to other methods as the OP.

I've never heard of the microscope thing. How does that work? Is is reliable and do you need to use it in conjunction with another method?

I used NFP briefly in the past but found it difficult as I have irregular cycles, am prone to thrush and am very prudish - not a great combination. Is the Persona a good way of getting around those problems whilst still using NFP?

hairtwiddler · 02/06/2008 21:33

Is it not possible to get a latex free cervical cap? a mooncup is made of medical grade silicone so wondering why cap can't be too? Anyone know?

peachygirl · 02/06/2008 22:22

I came off the pill a bit ago due to feling terrible I have been trained in NFP and am going to pick that up again and will be starting my persona machine again.
SOH is right you do need to be disciplined.
A really good website for NFP is here

peachygirl · 02/06/2008 22:23

Rolf, you have to have cycles of 23/35 days with a persona

emma1977 · 02/06/2008 22:39

You can't get latex-free diaphragms. I have no idea why. Probably not much call for them so no drug company has bothered to invest in developing them. The regular diaphragm rarely has any takers these days due to the better range of contraceptive choices.
