How did you get rid of your hemorrhoids?

Do I just persevere with Germoloids / Anusol over the counter stuff? Or is it worth seeing the doc? Can he give me anything more effective? I'm fed up.

And why can't I use the exciting new Germoloids SPRAY that I bought in Superdrug this morning? Not suitable for breastfeeding mothers. Contains Hydrocortisone - is that so bad?

Go Broccolli! I have no advice..just wanted to say I admire your candour regarding your Chalfonts.

dizzydixies · 29/05/2008 14:49

oh lordy - I found them more painful than the stitches both times am so sorry

are you still within a year of the wee one to get free prescription and stock up on the supposotories?

fire in some lactalouse to soften your stool and give your bottom a break

sit with your feet up on a stool when going to the toilet - not on the floor - and don't stay on the loo if nothing happening

only go when you feel you need to, don't be trying just in case

the spray isn't advised due to it entering the membranes if I remember correctly but I'm sorry, I was in agony so I chucked EVERYTHING at them regardless

I remember coming back from toilet and crying my heart out as was in so much pain

loads and loads of fruit and water - all obvious but really does help

Izzywhizzy · 29/05/2008 14:51

Mine shrivelled away as soon as I gave birth. I agree- they are VERY painfull.

dizzydixies · 29/05/2008 14:52

Where's AmateurArseDoctor when you need her?

Having a CS won't necessarily prevent piles. They are more often caused because of the weight of your baby.
Anusol worked for me in the relief anyway. I don't think they ever go, they just shrink back. I've had mine since my teens(because I blow my nose really hard in case you're wondering)

dizzydixies · 29/05/2008 16:02

solo I realise this but it certainly doesn't help am just weighing up all the pros and cons lol

BroccoliSpears · 29/05/2008 16:26

Piles because of vigorous nose blowing?!

there was a young woman on This Morning during the week who had them since she was 15yrs old and she'd had some new all singing all dancing procedure to get rid of them for good

I think it was called Halo or something? wouldn't help in the short term but nice to know there maybe something other than a horrid op to help if they're a longer term problem

solo · 29/05/2008 16:39

Yes, nose blowing! My dad always blew his nose really hard and I just did/do the same from an early age and without using my pelvic floor muscles - because I didn't know about them then. So in effect, I was pushing down everytime I blew my nose.

My mum had that proceedure done years ago and so too a friend. The surgeon shoots a type of rubber band around them which cuts off the blood supply to them I believe. This is only for the internal ones though, not the ones that hang down from your bum...

BroccoliSpears · 29/05/2008 20:32

So, unless I fancy arse surgery (I really don't) I'm stick with over-the-counter by the sound of things.

Depends how bad they are.
My dad had his removed, 6 hours he was in surgery for, they were that bad. He doesn't have any problems now.
Go and see the doctor, don't suffer.

I divorced him

Seriously proctosedyl suppositories and ointment, religiously for a week.
