Mole biopsy on scalp

I'm just wondering if anyone has had a mole removed (possible melanoma) on their scalp and can give me any info about healing please?

The mole is about 7mm x 4mm and is basically just above my hairline above my forehead.

I'm a teacher and they've booked me in for the day before I go back to work! Bit worried about having a shaved patch/horrible wound of my face.

My dh had a mole removed (not from his scalp) and turned out to be a melanoma. They took an area around the mole out, sent it off for biopsy and to ascertain if and how far it has spread. In his case they had to take out a little more to ensure it wasn’t a danger.

The only thing I will say to you is however inconvenient the date they offer is, take it. Dh’s consultant told him he had a headmistress who put off seeing him due to her work load and I’ll leave you to guess the outcome. I don’t mean to scare you but there won’t be anything as important as this.

Thank you - definitely won't cancel! I agree completely it's not worth the risk.

Just wondering if I should be prepared to perhaps miss a day of work!

I had a mole removed from my leg. I wasn’t allowed to remove the dressing for 48 hours, and I kept a light dressing on it for about a month after. I wonder if some kind of a bandana or scarf might be useful if you want to be discreet about it?

You could also contact them and tell them the situation, and that you're available at very short notice if a cancellation arises? If you are, that is.

who will do the procedure?
on the face often an asthetic suregon does. they have experience minimising scarring.

the wound will appear quite big and bruised and you will need good wound care. and possibly a larger excision if melanoma is found.

you will not be able to get the area wet until it's healed enough to not gape open again...

This is a good idea - thank you!

I haven't been given this information, unfortunately. My parents get skin cancer (not melanoma) and I know a plastic surgeon removed it when my Dad got one on his nose

Yes I was thinking this - just wasn't sure if I would be able to have an additional item putting pressure on it!

When I had my mole taken off they put a pressure bandage on top - it was on my lower leg - to help prevent swelling, so my wound was fine with pressure on top. I don’t know if the same would apply to yours.
