Any dermatologists out there? Please help 16 year old DD topical steroid withdrawal

Hi, we’re waiting for our dermatology appt but I’m at my wit’s end and desperately need advice. DD has been using Enstilar foam for 2 years - 2 x a week or less - to manage scalp psoriasis. She also has guttate psoriasis which she manages with the cream too.

About six weeks ago she developed horrible perioral dermatitis and after reading this was most likely caused by steroid, I encouraged her to stop. The Enstilar was no longer managing her psoriasis and I was concerned about her using it long term. I feel terrible now as I had not read up properly- firstly on what Enstilar actually is and secondly, what can happen when you stop using it.

Her guttate has flared but we’re managing that with Silkis cream, a vitamin D. But her forehead and face have broken out in so many spots - all over. She still has the PD which we now have some cream for. Her eyes are bloodshot too which I’m also worried is a sign of steroid withdrawal.

She’s very down about it and I’m a wreck - I just feel so responsible. Firstly for letting her use them in the first place and now for encouraging her to stop without tapering which I now know you shouldn’t do.

Should we just push on? I’m so worried this will just get worse and worse. What’s the best way to treat the pimples? Should we use the Silkis cream or general spot treatment. I just don’t know what to do and our appt is t until early September. Thank you for any advice. I’m

I can’t help with the steroid element but the only thing that shifted my PD (brought on by steroid cream for eczema that I’d accidentally got on my face through touching with the creamed finger!) was a 4 month course of antibiotics (lymecycline). It worked very quickly (noticeable improvement within a couple of weeks).
