Have had tooth pain which I can not pinpoint to any tooth for about 6 weeks now. Have been to dentist who took xray and said could see nothing. Am now on max amnt of extra strength nurofen and it is still waking me up at night.........

I know I need to go back and say I can't go on like this but what could it be? She muttered something about a 'nerve dying'. Yikes.

If one particular tooth is painful to touch with your finger, or try tapping them with the end of you toothbrush and see if one makes you jump, then it is the nerve dying. You have two options then - either take the tooth out or have root canal treatment. Both cost the same on the NHS now. You really do need to go back to the dentist though.

Ummm gotta ring them haven't I? Am being like a bairn aren't I? But the pain is incredible. Its not one tooth, it actually moves around, even from the top to the bottom of my jaw, but always on same side..................

Wine I think is the answer.

Root canals are not ALWAYS painful as hell to start with, especially if the nerve is already dying/dead . I work for a dentist and have a lot of people come out of the surgery saying that wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be!!! You do need to go to the dentist though as if it is dying you could end up with a nasty abscess.

Sorry HCTG I am a Qualified Dental Nurse and have had a tooth die and I would say it is bloody painful. The RCT isn't though - providing they numb you up properly.

mumoftwo, I know the nerve dying is painful , I meant the procedure to do the root filling AFTER it has died, in the dentists chair, is not necessarily painful, have also had a tooth die and it is VERY painful. I meant the root canal is not sorry for any misunderstanding

and sorry to you too for misunderstanding you LL I just didn't want her to put off going to dentist as she was scared of the root canal procedure!
