Yes, sumatriptan is one.

my sister has suffered for years and I am surprised the gp has never suggested it

my dad hangs his head over the edge of a bed, face up, and shoots Lidocaine into his nose (prescribed) for migraine relief.

swears by it.

his trigger is his hypertension so he's not able to control or avoid them from time to time.

sanomigran, but when you first start taking it it makes you drowsy for a while, i was supposed to take it everyday, but i found it was best if i just took one ant the beginning of migraine and slept for about 14 hours

DH takes amitriptyline. He has been trying lots of things . There is also one he has recently been prescribed (by neurologist) for when things are v bad ie a one off one, but can;t remember that one.

Pizotifen, but it is gradually falling out of favour.

Sumtriptan should only be taken during attacks, not on a daily basis.

Amitriptyline is usually only recommended after a neurology assessment.

I should add that my dad is in the US, where different drugs are used sometimes to treat different ailments.

I take betablockers:

Started on Propranolol 40mg twice a day which worked wonders for first 3 months but then migraines started again

Just started Half Inderal LA 80mg once a day which is a slow release betblocker, take it in the morning and it slow releases all day - saves the high and low of taking two lots of tabs

FWIW - my mum takes Sanomigran (Pitzotifen) and has done for 15 years. She still gets occasional migraines but no where near the 2 per month she used to!!

Any more info just shout.

BTW - your sis isn't on the pill is she? I can't take any form of hormonal contraceptive as it exacerbates my migraine.
