My dd did this a couple of weeks ago.

Her front tooth seems to have died ... it's gone all grey. I am taking her to dentists later this week.

There isn't really much you can do at this stage I don't think, just keep an eye on it, especially the gums, as the area can get infected and cause further problems.

micci25 · 28/05/2008 20:08

happened to my dd you need top push his teeth back as it sounds like he has fractured him gumline as she did. dentist said that i should have have tried to 'snap' her teeth back into place to push the fracture back, now that it has set her teeth will always be a little further back than they are meanbt to be.

if you darent do it yourself some hospitals have orthodentic surgens on call so i would take him to a and e. i thought about it when i saw all the blood coming from dd1s mouth but once it stopped she seemed fine so i never did, i wish i had as her teeth will never be the same, even her adult ones will come through further back.

Most likely bleeding is from the lips rather than the tooth socket .
Unless the tooth very wobbly REALLY WOULDNT worry .
The first aid advice if a tooth falls out or is VERY wobbly ....assuming its clean.......... is to Shove it ( gently ) back in . ! Apparently it can reestablish its blood supply and stick itself back IYKWIM .

IMO HE is Just SOO unlikely to have done any major damage from a fall of that magnitude .
Try to let the dust settle and reassess in an hour or two ...If possible .

Good luck

DONT worry if he has to lose the tooth, I cried for hours when my DD lost her gorgeous front tooth at 17 months, she just has a cheecky and gorgeous grin now. Check with your dentist, but eben if they have to take it out, if it doesn't reconnect the blood vessels and nerves, it WIL be OK! Good luck and don't be too das, it feels awful though. Big hugs

My ds did this fell flat on his face and split his tooth in half at 1. Took him to the dentist who basically said oh well.
I think if the tooth fall out put it in milk (or saliva) and get him too a dentist asap as they can sometimes pop them back in, but normally with milk teeth they tend no to worry too much.

micci25 · 28/05/2008 20:28

do his teeth seem out of position? and is the blood around the gumline? that is what dd1's looked like, however she was literally pouring with blood it was everywhere and was inconsolable for about half an hour and she is four so a 1 year old would have been hysterical.

thanks everyone its always good to know what other people would do. He is restless tonight and seems to have a sore mouth. Bleeding has stopped so will just keep a close eye on him.

mouths tend to bleed a lot, it doesn't always mean anything. But as others have said, GPs and dentists don't tend to do much about wobbly baby teeth. DS knocked out a front tooth at about 16 months old and I was devastated but now 4 years on I love his cheeky smile! It will be almost sad when his adult teeth comes through and he doesn't have that gap anymore.

dd did this (she's 20 months) a few months ago and I panicked like anything, she bled from behind and infront both her top two teeth and everyone said to me 'they will probably go grey and die'

So I immediately phoned dentist who said nothing they could do. So I then phoned local private dentist who insisted on seeing her immediately, pushed her teeth around a little bit, and gave her a lot of antibiotics to prevent infection. They bled on and off for over a week but are now fine (fingers crossed!)

Would recommend decent dentist asap.
