Reassurance needed with sickness bug

My DS (3) has had sickness and diarrhoea since Sunday and has not been able to keep anything down, not even water.

He brightened up yesterday, although was still sick and I thought he had turned a corner. However, after a full 12 hours sleep he was very lethargic this morning and didn't want to speak or even take a sip of water. His nappy was dry and he started vomiting bile so we decided to take him down to A & E to get him checked over. When he was there he managed to drink a couple of glasses of orange juice and brightened up slightly before falling asleep. The hospital were happy with him so they discharged him,and since then he hasn't been sick again. He has had an ice lolly, and even had some beans on toast (he asked for it even though he doesn't normally eat it!)

However, he has been sleeping a lot, probably about 4 hours on and off this afternoon. Is this normal? The doctor was a bit worried about the lethargy earlier, but they coudln't that worried surely if they discharged him. He is responsive when awake but I don't know if I'm worrying needlessly here.

Thanks

DS had this (21 months) and it took about a week to clear. We ended up in A&E at one point as I was worried about dehydration.

DSmdefinitely slept more as he was getting better, so wouldn't worry too much about that. Also that he's responsive when awake and asking for food, good sign

Thanks. Bugger, cant believe this might go on another few days though!

he has just been sick again but only a little bit. He is just wanting to go back to sleep again now. Wish he was running around making a nuisance of himself as normal

Oh it's horrible when they're ill, I was climbing the walls by the end of that week! Hope your DS is better soon.

We're going through exactly the same - DS (4) threw up early hours of monday and has had severe diarrohea (sp) since, he's also sleeping all the time, has a headache and is very hot. We went to the GP today as we were concerned about the sleepiness. It's horrible seeing them so lethargic - what a strange bug!
