DD (9) has a big verruca on the ball of her foot, which is getting really painful. We’ve been using Bazuca gel for a few weeks now, but all it seems to do is dissolve the skin around it. DD is struggling to walk now, and it’s a concern for many of her activities, both from a movement (football, ballet) and hygiene (swimming, karate) perspective.

I’m considering the freezing treatment, but that didn’t work for me in the past…

Is there any point taking her to the GP for this?

Please can you share treatments that have worked for you?!

I don’t have a solution as we’re in a similar place with DS atm. We’re currently trying black nail varnish which was recommended by a friend. Bazuca did the same to us and just damaged the skin all around so we had to wait for that to heal before we could even try something else.

Hopefully this bumps to a better answer.

Banana skin

Nail polish bizarre but worked on one I had for 3-4 years . Covered in nail polish & finally disappeared in a week .

Wishitsnows · 04/08/2025 22:59

tried everything then someone suggested cider vinegar overnight. Magic when freezing etc didn’t work.

Bee venom (from Amazon) used it on my daughters stubborn wart and it worked a treat

Disturbia81 · 04/08/2025 23:01

verruca veteran here! I use scholl verruca SALICYLIC acid, keep applying every day and after a week or two it falls off. It’s worked every time on me and my kids

Verruca treatment recommendations please!

Book in to see a chiropodist/podiatrist. The NHS doesn’t provide this for verrucas but you can pay privately. They will scrape it off with a scalpel and apply treatment - it takes a few goes but it’s the only thing that works. None of the over the counter treatments are really effective and anything else is an old wives’ tale.

Erm.. they are. We use them and they work.

Lucky you. It’s more likely that your immune system recognises the wart and spontaneously clears it up. There is zero evidence base for any OTC treatments for warts, unfortunately. Ask a dermatologist if you don’t believe me.

I agree. I once had a verruca that lasted 2 years and none of the OTC remedies and banana peel or duct tape helped.

Finally I went to a podiatrist who froze it off (what they use is more potent than Bazooka etc) and recommended using a caustic pencil and emery board after that and after a few weeks it was gone.

Disturbia81 · 04/08/2025 23:17

No, bazuka freezing treatment got rid of my 10 year wart in a week, no spontaneous reaction..
Salicylic acid works on my kids veruccas when nothing else did.
Not saying they work for everyone. But blanket statements saying none work are ridiculous and unhelpful.

Battybaa · 04/08/2025 23:20

Took my daughter to podiatrist after weeks of using bazuka extra strength. She filed the dead skin down explaining it is the build up of skin cells that cause the discomfort. She said filing the verruca activates the immune system. By activating the immune system it investigates and the body rejects the verruca. Her words. Advised to keep on with bazuka, let it dry and apply a plaster each time. Anyway, I wasn't convinced BUT within a couple of weeks the verruca disappeared. The filing she expertly did was crucial in getting rid. She used a small metal file which I wouldn't be comfortable using on dd's foot so it may be worth the expense of a visit to podiatrist, I paid £50.00.

My grandmother used to swear by rubbing a snail on them, then releasing the snail, which would then somehow 'pull' the warts after it as it left.

My mother dismissed this as ridiculous superstition, & dug the Mother Verruca right out of my heel with a potato peeler. OUCH.

Having said that...it did kill it off, & a few days later, all the little verrucas including a couple on my other foot, fell out rather dramatically in the bath.

I'm pretty sure it's down to the immune system as per pp. Mum might have woken the process up a bit!

I've had zero luck with dc with OTC stuff. Black nail varnish worked once, but I suspect that was coincidental.

Sorry OP.

notafraidofthebigbadwolf · 04/08/2025 23:28

If you decide on the podiatrist, take her right away. Her foot will be painful for a few days, and again in a couple of weeks if they have to repeat the treatment. You want this sorting before football season kicks off.

Flamingoknees · 05/08/2025 12:06

Not recommending-but my son had a large one and bazucca worked, but not how you'd expect. He was very anti any health interventions (for anything) and only let me put it on once. He wouldn't let me peel it off and reapply as per instructions. Low and behold 2 weeks later verruca was found in his bed, and sole of his foot was fine. Never came back. I was amazed as it was big.

feetAreDifficult · 05/08/2025 12:21

I thing veruccae can be quite variable tbh, and I think it partly depends on the person's general health and stuff.

My DS has a whole farm of them on his hands and feet and we've tried everything. We've now been referred to a paediatrician to ask if there's some reason why his immune system isn't doing something about them.

Things we have tried:
Silver nitrate
Wartabator
Bazuca salicyclic acid
Bazuca fire ant stuff
duct tape
nail varnish
filing with an emery board
silver nitrate + cutting the tops off with a surgical scalpel every day for months
Wartifreeze
CryoIQ professional wart freezing treatment.

The little blighters refuse to die.

My DS and SIL by contrast have both had verrucae in the same period. They both cured theirs in three weeks, one by using salicylic acid and a scalpel, and one by using wartifreeze. In their cases, the warts just fell off after three weeks.

The latest stuff on our list to try is Verutop® Isdin.

NotrialNodeal · 05/08/2025 12:22

My son had this problem for a couple of years. We tried all the usual over the counter treatments and nothing worked. In the end I decided to try manuka honey. Within a week of putting this on every night it was gone!

feetAreDifficult · 05/08/2025 12:23

We use a Swann-Morton Sterile Disposable Scalpels with Handle and No.10 Blade to take the hard skin off. If you put siler nitrate on the day before then the hard skin is much much easier to get off.

The scalpels are on amazon.

GG1986 · 05/08/2025 20:59

This worked on my young daughters verruca a few years ago and we have just put some more on today as she has another one! It's 12.99.

Verruca treatment recommendations please!
Greysowhat · 05/08/2025 22:00

I got rid of my stubborn verruca with cold sore cream/aciclovir. I put it on as often as possible
