CPAP machine

I’m trying out a CPAP machine for mild apnoea. It’s made me feel really sick. Is that normal and something I have to try to get used to or is it just me?! I’ve not even managed to get past the gentle wind down setting yet.

Have you been issued this, or have you purchased it yourself? If issued by the NHS, I would assume that they would be able to help you with this. Hopefully someone with some experience will be able to help you here.

What machine is it? Has it got a humidifier?
I hated mine for the first month. Mask was wrong, setting was horrible etc. You do have to accept its going to feel weird. I love her now - and can't bear sleeping without her!

Got it issued today from NHS. It doesn’t have a humidifier.

Can you buy CPAP machines? I didn't know that.

Give it time, I struggled initially but now I struggle without it. Which mask are you using, I have the nasal pillow which works brilliantly for me x

My husband was issued one from the NHS and has never felt sick because of it. He has the mouth and nose mask. My husband can’t be without it now and it’s also saved me from his snoring.

My dh had to try a couple of masks until he got one that felt right. He has a humidifier (had to ask for it). If you get a dry mouth try xylimelts as they help (and help protect your teeth too)

It does take a while to tolerate them. Once you can put up with it, it can change your life.

Not always. I tolerated mine straightaway
It has never made me feel nauseous. There does seem to be something going around at the moment that causes people to feel very nauseous, are you sure that the CPAP is to blame?

The mask has irritated my skin from time to time but I have to make sure it is a tight fit so that air doesn't blow into my eyes as they are already excessively dry.

I recommend persevering if you can and trying out different masks. My DH (also a CPAP user) has had lots of different masks including a nasal pillow at which is a small device that blows the air up his nostrils.
