If you were referred to ‘the sarcoma team’ for a biopsy?

(and no, I didn’t Google anything).

Do you have a lump that has appeared on your arm/leg? I would not automatically assume cancer but they feel the sarcoma team are the best to deal with it. It's like if a lump appears in your breast they would refer to breast clinic for biopsy. It could be a number of things, cyst etc.

Sarcoidosis v sarcoid?

SmegFridge · 29/07/2025 23:53

My husband had a lump in his arm and he was sent to the sarcoma clinic to have it looked at. There was never any indication that they thought it might be cancer (in fact he was told they did not suspect cancer) nor was the lump cancerous. I think they were just the best people to investigate. Not sure if that was just in his case, but surely he can't be the only one. We certainly worried about it because we immediately thought it meant he had cancer.

I hope all is well with you OP.

I’d assume I’d got a lump and they wanted to test what it was - similar to what happens with moles.

Thank you, this is exactly the scenario for me, cancer wasn’t mentioned but I’ve unfortunately had a lot of experience with people around me having cancer so I know sarcoma is related. I didn’t panic but I was a tad miffed to find over a week after a phone call the referral hadn’t been done, and the dr then had to explain she did not think it was cancer but they were the best team to deal with it. It would have helped had she explained that to begin with!

thanks for the replies, I don’t think I was completely unreasonable to think we may have been dealing with cancer but perhaps a bit pessimistic.
