Is it safe to give Medised and cough mixture a couple of hours apart?

Ds2 has a horrible cold and had some Medised just before bed,at around 6.30pm.
He's now coughing lots and I've got some Tixylix night cough which I wondered whether is safe to give him.The Tixylix doesn't contain Paracetemol.
Thanks.

Yes I would give both, and have done before.

Ooh, someone told me (it may have been Sarah Kennedy on Radio 2, but don't let that put you off) that for a persistant cough, rub Vicks Vaporub into the soles of the feet and cover with socks. Apparently stops nasty nighttime coughs.

Wouldn't hurt to try!

Thanks to both of you.
Will give him the Tixylix and stick the vapour rub on his feet with socks.Anything's worth a try.

It was only me! (But I do have a split personality!)

Hope you all get some sleep.

Sorry - but medised is not suitable for your DS2, neither are many cough mixtures. They have been withdrawn for use in under 2s - recently.

It exactly this which has caused concern...people using 2 different cough mixtures "at the same time" - although I appreciate that you are trying to space them - there are many that would not be so concientious.

Maidamess-must be time for my bed, lol.
Can't find the vapour rub anywhere. We're moving house soon and I have a feeling I may have packed it already.

I wouldn't give tixylix and medised together for the reasons stated by SMS. I spke to the pharmacist yesterday and she said that although she can't sell me medised anymore, if I have it in the house then I can use it at my discretion, but the worry was that people were unwittingly overdosing their children by using two such mediceines together, or else giving frequent doses of one or another. she also said that babies don't need the drowsy part of medised and that it did nothing other than make them drowsy.

I think occasional use of one is OK though, so just stop at the medised and use vicks or something else.

you can give ibuprofen between doses of calpol if pain or fever relief is an issue.

i would not give them together, or even spaced apart. Medised has an antihistamine in it (i think) and that is what makes them sleepy. Tixylix night time cough also has an antihistamine in it although it is not the same one. I was told by a pharmacist that i couldnt take two different types of antihistamine for my hayfever in case of an interaction. So avoid. I recomment calpol and tyxilix.
