5.5 year old wetting during the day - help needed please!

My dd is 5.5 years old and completely dry at night. However she is wetting herself about twice a day. I cannot remember the last time she was dry all day. She has had brief periods (2-3 months) of being completely dry at age 3 for example but always seems to revert back to wetting again.

I feel like I have tried everything - being ultra supportive, ignoring, star charting, spending more time with her, banning tv. I just do not know where to go from here. Surely if she is dry at night, the cause isn't organic?

She seems to be a happy little girl with no apparent worries. She is happy at school and at home (*she wets at home and at school, at friends' homes, anywhere!)

Does anyone have any ideas before I trek off to the G.P.?

urine infections?

What happens if you take her to the toilet every 3 hours?

3littlefrogs - I have tried to take her to the toilet regularly. She will say "I just don't need to go, mummy" and the 20 minutes later, she's wet.

Am wondering if I'm missing some deep psychological message here...My mother says I'm reading too much into it and that's she's simply lazy/distracted.

Is it a full amount every time it happens, like her bladder was full, or is it just a sort of leak? If it's a full amount and she is able to hold it, then she is probably holding too long before taking herself to the loo. If it's just leaking then I'd think of urine infections or even stress incontinence. I had a real problem all through my childhood with laughing alot. If I laughed very hard for a while, then I would pee. And often it would be alot of pee, even though I flt no need to go before. Do you notice that it happens when she is laughing/coughing/running around/lifting something heavy? x

I don't think it is the full amount and doesn't seem to tie in with laughing, lifting etc. I am off to the GP with her tomorrow

DD1 is 4.5 and has had periods of time where she's wet at least once a day (sometimes more). Each time normally lasts a couple of weeks or more.

In my experience I can honestly say the most effective way of dealing with it is to COMPLETELY IGNORE it. I don't even remind her to go for a wee. If she wets, I do not acknowledge it... simply say "Ok, go and get changed then" and that's it. It does work!

She's been watertight for a couple of months now so fingers crossed that might be the end of wetting (plus she's getting older)

I know how frustrating it can be though. BTW, I would probably rule out an infection, just to make sure

Good luck!
