What the heck is this circular rash type thing on my back?

I’m googling and it’s saying things like Lyme’s disease and Ringworm 😱 What do you think it looks like? What should I put on it?

Photos aren’t great as it’s in the centre of my back and difficult to reach!!!

My DD had ringworm on her forehead when she was about 5. No idea how she got it and no one else had it. We had a cat though

Sortin · 25/07/2025 16:32

What did they sell you for it OP?

I did an e-consult to my GP, told them I'd seen a pharmacist etc. I just got a text reply saying we have no appointments but try ringing another day or see a pharmacist🤔
What's the point of an e consult with photos. They simply treat it as a request for an appointment.

WashableVelvet · 25/07/2025 16:38

It’ll be fine, OP. It isn’t a worm, and it doesn’t mean you’re dirty. Fungi live on our skin, generally our body keeps them in check, but when we’re stressed sometimes, or when we get an extra dose of fungi from somewhere, we’re less resilient to them. Same as going down with thrush if you’re stressed, or athletes foot. No big deal.

Absentmindedsmile · 25/07/2025 16:45

Def ringworm. Easily treated.

She just gave me Canesten, told me to apply twice a day for 2 weeks and it should be gone then she reckons 👍

Thank you! I think there’s definitely some not so nice connotations associated with it that have me hung up a bit 🙈 I’m absolutely stressed at the moment so that may also not have helped.

Anyway, fingers crossed the cream works and it’ll clear up in a couple of weeks 🤞

Psoriasis by the looks of things.

If its ringworm it should improve, not get worse. DS got very quickly worse after using the ringworm cream. It wasn't ringworm...

This is the most measured and sensible response in this thread. It is a shame it’s called ring ‘worm’ as it does bring to mind tapeworms and whatnot. But it’s really just a minor inconvenience. Unfortunately I am very prone to this - the main issue for me is it’s a bit unsightly and it takes longer to get dressed etc due to applying cream and thoroughly hand washing. I go swimming often and am a rather sweaty person so my skin is generally a bit damp…perfect breeding conditions 🥴

OP I wouldn’t get too hung up on where you caught it from. It’s just one of those things! My top tip is to keep on top of it with the cream and look out for future patches as the earlier you start with the cream the better. It does take a few weeks to clear up. I’m still searching for some miracle treatment that works quicker.

CherryRipe1 · 25/07/2025 18:46

Looks like ringworm. I've not rtft so you might have already had a dx.

Cheshirelassxx · 25/07/2025 18:48

Like others have said ringworm, I would be very surprised if it is anything different.

Thank you so much, definitely felt a bit icky, I’d consider myself a really clean person, take pride in my appearance etc but it’s just one of this things that have those negative connotations associated with it so I’m gonna treat it and get over it. It’s not a big deal.

Started the cream this evening, washing my hands thoroughly and not scratching it. Going to wash my tops and PJs after every wear and hope for the best 🤞

Thanks to everyone again that commented and offered advice, hopefully someone else will find it and find the advice useful!

I just thought of a lovely dog I met about 2 weeks ago. She was gorgeous and I was ALL over her! 🙈 She also lived on a farm? Could you pick it up from just rubbing a dog so you think? I’m veering away from it being the spa as it was 4 weeks ago, Mom’s foot fungal thing was definitely from there though I think.

Oh my god, I actually rescued a kitten as well in the car park of my work place about 3 weeks ago!!!! She was tiny, filthy a little injured and all by herself. I managed to catch her and brought her to my vet etc. A colleague adopted her 🥰 Could be her that gave it to me as well?

It’s just a bit of ringworm. I sometimes get it when I’m run down. I just put caneston on it and it goes away. I don’t do any big deep clean, I just wash towels and bed linen as normal. I don’t share towels or a bed with anyone so it’s only me to look after. It usually clears up pretty quickly. I wouldn’t bother trying to guess where it came from and please don’t call the spa, they’ll think you’re bonkers.

Edited

Honestly, I’m not stressing about getting to the bottom of where it came from, I’m really just curious at this point, love a mystery🤣 I’ve ruled the spa out I think as it was 2 weeks ago. My mother did get a fungal infection from there though so won’t be going back.

That should say the spa was 4 weeks ago!

I work at a vets and i have caught it twice over the years ,caneston cleared it up both times fairly quickly with no lasting symptoms.
Be careful around children as they can get it much worse than adults and you can pass it on to animals too.

CherryRipe1 · 26/07/2025 13:02

You can pick it up anywhere moist, wet or steamy hot tubs, jacuzzis, swimming pools, shower rooms, saunas as it's air borne and infectious. My ex got it quite badly as a plumber possibly working on a shower repair & had not been in contact with pets, then the whole family caught it. We treated it with canesten. .
