I know someone who had this and got it checked by a speech therapist or an ear nose and throat specialist(privately though I think).

I think it is worth getting checked out, but there may not be much you can do about it.

roobis · 27/05/2008 14:02

i get this too, i think its linked to a sluggish lymphatic system, have you been to docs about it?

PinkChick · 27/05/2008 14:02

well at minute im full of cold and when i get cold i also get outer ear infections(ALWAYS!)..this cough started about 2 weeks ago and felt like a lump in my throat, now voice is hit and miss and very rough and gravelly, like vera duckworth!

Pinkchick, I lose my voice all the time. I noticed it first of all when I was pg, but it's quite often now. I assumed it was because I wasn't getting enough fluid. Not so much one big guzzle but continuously moistening my throat helps. Its definitely worse when I'm at work which I assume is the effect of air conditioning.

bellavita · 27/05/2008 14:03

Perhaps you could try whispering instead of actual talking, just so you give your voice a rest?

A good few years ago this happened to me twice within a space of a couple of weeks, Dr said it was laryngitis (sp) and to whisper.

Like belgo said, tis best to get yourself checked out.

PinkChick · 27/05/2008 14:03

no roobis i havent, didnt think theyd take me seriously..so what is it.causes it/fixes it?

Be very careful not to overstrain your voice. I've had maryngitis several times, and it turned into croup which was very distressing (and unusal in an adult - I'd never had it as a child!)

belgo · 27/05/2008 14:04

laryngitis I mean!

PinkChick · 27/05/2008 14:05

head fairy i am actually drinking more at min to try and sort my skin out as all i sued to drink was fizzy stuff..i work at home so no air con, not even heating alst month or so as weather been better and get out lots through day??

PinkChick · 27/05/2008 14:06

belgo thats exactly how id describe it..the cough sounds like croup, its like 'something' is catching when i cough and last week through night my chest/throat was rattling when asleep, i could only clear it after making myself cough really hard to 'clear' the feling???

PinkChick · 27/05/2008 14:13

I hope you sort it out soon. My mum had nodules on her vocal chords a few years ago and after they were fixed her surgeon said she could only talk all day or in the evening, not both, so now she comes home from work and doesn't talk to my poor dad all evening! (I think secretly he's relieved )

PinkChick · 27/05/2008 14:35

wow, thats scary, think i will def tone it down when normal now..poor mum!
