Ewww yuk Demodex mites. On my face! In my eyes?!!!!

Who knew Demodex mites were a thing? I went to my GP few years back as kept getting small pus filled spots (I'm 63 now so not a teenager!) and thought it was Rosacea. She said that it could be due to mites on my face.... I was grossed out. I used the cream, Soolantra and all the spots just stopped and I had lovely clear skin again.

For the past few months my left eye has felt sore and gritty as if there is something in it. I visited Specsavers, had a thorough eye exam and they said it probably was dry eyes (I guess I am in the age bracket for that). They recommended Hycosan eye drops which I have been using but my eye is still so gritty. I googled and it could be bloody mites living in my eyelash follicles. Have bought a tea tree eyelash foam that is supposed to kill them.

Did anyone know about these creatures? Anyone have them in their eyelashes? If so, give me some tips on how to get shot of them.

Everyone has them. You've had them all your life. No, you can't feel them. They're entirely benign and far too tiny to affect your eye.

And no, I don't recommend anyone squeamish about bugs does a websearch for them.

Not entirely true-demodex are a very common reason for blepharitis -which can be very uncomfortable and sometimes unsightly.
Your optometrist will give advice on how best to deal with them but they are endemic in over 60’s and nothing to worry about.

I have blepharitis. Try using the Blephaclear wipes or solution on a cotton pad. I’m resigned to having to do it daily for the rest of my life!

They are not entirely benign if you are sensitive to them. They can cause inflammatory conditions as mentioned in this post.

I have this (and dry eye and rosacea too). I use a hypochlorus acid spray for eyes which works pretty well. My only symptom is intensely itchy eyelashes. If I don’t keep up the spraying it comes back quickly. So annoying that it’s chronic.
