Anyone know the reasons for bleeding mid-cycle?

Basically I started to bleed on Thursday/Friday which is about half way through my cycle (day 15ish). I went to see the Dr and was told to book for a smear (which is due) and to come back if it happens again next month.

I now seem to be bleeding every other day. (so far on Friday, Sunday and again today).

Does anyone else experience this?

I do sometimes, but I am on the mini pill, and irregular bleeding is very common on my pill.
Could it be something to do with the contraception you're using?

MrsPuddleduck · 27/05/2008 11:47

We don't actually use contraception the doctor said it was probably hormonal or stress related but now I am bleeding every other day on and off it seems a bit strange to be hormonal.

im off for scan next month for similar reason.i started having 3 x 5-7 day bleeding a month rather than 1 x 5-7 day a month!

MrsPuddleduck · 27/05/2008 11:51

Should I go back to the doctors then or do you think I should wait and see what happens for a few more days?

not sure.mine been since march.

MrsPuddleduck · 27/05/2008 12:30

I wonder if it's cervical erosion. If so I will probably be told to have a smear - there is probably nothing else they can do. If so I will have to wait for the bleeding to subside enough for me to have one.

Sounds like cervial erosion to me too. Very common & utterly benign.
I've had it since my first pregnancy (4 years ago) but it only started effecting me outside of pgs in the last 6 mths or so.

It's possible to have the erosion area cauterised (apparently not as painful as it sounds ) - I haven't bothered yet as mine is not too much of a hassle.

I'm not hormonal or stressed

funnypeculiar · 27/05/2008 12:35

Oh, & smear is definatly a sensible first step - just to rule out anything more worrying.

NotABanana · 27/05/2008 12:36

I have had this and went for a smear which was normal. I sometimes think it is stress related with me. Hope you get it sorted.

MrsPuddleduck · 27/05/2008 12:40

Do you get cramping with it as well?

I nearly went to the out of hours on Sunday night it was so bad, it was to the left hand side and shooting down my thigh.

I was wondering if it is a cervical erosion too. I had one for a while when I was TTC DS2 which took longer as a result. It cleared up of its own accord after a year or two.

Having said that, mine only caused weird bleeding just before my period was due (like the period had started, but very light, and then it stopped after 2 days and the next day started properly). It wasn't all over the the place. It did cause the usual PMT cramps though.

You don't need a smear to dx an erosion - they should be able to see straight away. Hopefully the erosion is the only problem but I would definitely have a smear to be on the safe side, especially if one is due.

Good luck.

MrsPuddleduck · 27/05/2008 12:53

Niecie, I have very light bleeding for about 2 -4 days before my period. Perhaps that has been the only symptom so far and I haven't realised and now it has just got worse.

Niece - that's what mine usually does, but I've had a few random months when mine behaved as yours is doing willmouse.

As I understand it, the smear is to check that there's nothing else untoward causing the bleeding, rather than to dx cervical erosion.

I got cramping with it when I was pg, but not otherwise.

Niecie · 27/05/2008 13:09

Could be willmouse.

I think mine never got too bad and cleared up because, once I knew what was 'real' period and what wasn't, and I could finally work out when I was actually ovulating, I got pregnant with DS2. It seemed to do the trick and heal things up. By the time DS2 was 6 weeks old apparently it was gone.

Maybe I was lucky, I don't know, but like you, I was worried for a few months until I understood what was going on.
