Confused after uncle’s 2WW Upper GI referral — advice appreciated

Hi all,
I’m posting here because I’m quite worried about my uncle and confused about what happened today at his hospital appointment.

My uncle was referred on the 2WW (two-week wait) Upper GI pathway after an ultrasound found a 45x36mm lesion in his liver, which the report described as “highly suspicious for neoplasm” and recommended a fast-track referral.
Today we went to his appointment, but the clinician didn’t seem to take the ultrasound report too seriously. She didn’t examine him or review the ultrasound images herself (because she couldn't access the system) — she just said she thought it was probably “fatty liver” and would ask a radiologist to have another look at the scan. She said we’d get a letter in 2–4 weeks after that review. No further tests (like CT or MRI) were ordered.

I’m concerned because the ultrasound report sounded quite serious, and now it feels like he’s been left in limbo waiting weeks without any clear plan.
Is this normal? Should I contact his GP to chase things up, or wait for the radiologist’s review? Has anyone been through something similar?
Any advice would be really appreciated — thank you.

Chase it up. Not being able to access the system is not a reason for your uncle to not get a proper review. That's bonkers.

I think this is worth contacting the hospital PALs team and explaining your concern that the Dr didn’t review the scan in clinic and dismissed your concerns and the actual report already made. Hopefully they can stick a rocket up someone’s ass and get this expedited for you.
