Shooting pain in eyebrow

So last night lying in bed I had a shooting pain in my right eyebrow and it only happened once and lasted a second. I looked on Google to see if it is anxiety related as I have been suffering lately and it pretty much said Trigeminal Neuralgia and now I am terrified. It also said sinus but I don’t have any other symptoms.

This is just your health anxiety. It’s absolutely nothing to worry about

MissEloiseBridgerton · 17/07/2025 09:35

Random shooting pains are just normal aren't they? Especially if it was once, and never came back. I get them a lot. Trigeminal neuralgia is an agonising constant nerve pain, not a singular episode of pain. Try not to Google anymore, it does nothing for health anxiety!

One shooting pain? Stop Googling!

I know you are right I just panicked because when I put in anxiety with it nothing came up about anxiety.

I do have quite bad anxiety and I was very stressed.

@MissCeltic you know, I am undoubtedly a lot older than you. I'll let you into a little secret. By my age, the amount of odd little aches and pains one gets, you'd be forgiven to think you were on your way out, at times. I do feel for your generation though - you are bombarded with health (or sickness/lump/cancer) info everywhere you look, and it must be hard not to think that every little ailment is going to lead to cancer. For the most part, they don't, but you could probably find a symptom of cancer in every little thing you look up, if you wanted to, and without medical knowledge, you are likely sending yourself nuts with worry. I was diagnosed with GAD (general anxiety disorder) in my 20's, (not health related) and I live every day, hour, minute, with anxiety symptoms, eg, feeling like there is too much adrenaline in my body from the minute I wake up. No medication has really worked for me, and believe me I've tried many. The one that does, is on a restricted list and GP's are very reluctant to prescribe it as it's addictive. I know lots of people like me with regards to anxiety, and most of the semi educated in the world are probably in this state because, as they used to say, 'a little knowledge is a dangerous thing'. We have a tiny symptom, and that leads us down a rabbit hole of research, all of which is usually no comfort, as almost everything leads to cancer. It's a cliché, but exercise does help me. Lifting weights, stretching, Pilates and Yoga are all good. Outdoor swimming is amazing for mental health. The cold water is like an instant happiness hit. I also walk my dogs twice a day and that also helps - but not if they are misbehaving! I wish you peace and good health in the years ahead. X

I get this with sinus problems and sometimes referred pain from postural headaches. Are you on the computer a lot?

MissCeltic · 17/07/2025 18:57

I should also have said that recently I have been having cold tingle/twinge in my cheek which lasts about a second and it’s a cold sensation. This is really freaking me out.

Could be sinus? Is the air dry in your house?

sallsterm · 17/07/2025 21:00

Also, I'm not saying it is this but are you very stressed or ever had a loved one die young/become very ill?

I'm sorry to get so personal but I only say it to try and help, I scan my body when I'm stressed and normal twinges and pains become amplified. I know with me the root cause with me is witnessing my father's sudden death.

MissCeltic · 17/07/2025 21:04

I do suffer from anxiety and this cold twinge I am getting has really been stressing me out.

Do you have an underlying worry, are you worrying that it's MS? When you worry you can amplify these sensations as the area will almost 'light up' brighter on your brain map for that area.

I am terrified it’s the early signs of Trigeminal Neuralgia. I know in some cases people have had very mild symptoms and then the real pain has arrived sometimes months or a year later. At the moment I literally can’t think of anything else.

Try not to focus on that as that will make things worse, do you have an appointment about it?
