Front tooth (top left) became abscessed around 2 and a half weeks ago. Had no dentist, managed to find a practice about an hour's drive away who took me on as an NHS patient. I was prescribed antibiotics for 5 days. That didn't fully clear the infection, I'm not in pain but still have a lump above gum behind my nose and if I press it sends a 'shock' so antibiotics didn't fully clear it. I had to go back yesterday to discuss options, I was told when I went last they could save tooth.
Yesterday I was told that they could try root canal, but also would need an apicoectomy as the infection is in the bone. This apparently has to be done in hospital, with a 2 year wait on the NHS. I was offered to pay private at £1000. I have been told there is a 50% chance of success.
Option 2 was extraction and a denture, which I don't want £450 Option 3 was a bridge, no price given. Option 4 dental implant which is their recommendation. Around £3600-4000.
Obviously I was t expecting this, I thought I'd be able to go NHS now I'm a patient but they were pushing for private and as it's a front tooth im panicking. Absolutely terrified of all options and I also can't really afford it!
