Brain fog

flyingmama94 · 16/07/2025 16:33

I feel like I am my wits end and want to try all avenues before seeking medical help. I have for a few years suffered with brain fog and was often mistaken for a being tired due to a disrupted sleep pattern ( I used to travel for work so would miss out on nights sleep and time zone changes) anyway not being in the job for nearly 18 months. I feel like my sleep is regulated however this brain fog and constant state of feeling clouded has never lifted. I have tried lots of home remedies including hormonal vitamins and lifestyle changes cutting out caffeine and eating better. I have learnt to live with but its now holding me back from socialising and meeting new people and also going for job interviews in case I appear slow or like the lights are on but no one is home.
This page is always so helpful and thought anyone who has been through the same could shed some light and advice. Please help because anytime Ive mentioned it at the gp’s I don’t seem to be taken very seriously. Thanks in advance

Any other symptoms?

Could it be perimenopause?

Neurodiversitydoctor · 16/07/2025 20:36

You don't say how old you are. Could it be menopause ? Have you tried HRT ?

flyingmama94 · 16/07/2025 20:36

30 years old and 10 months post partum

If anyone can come up with a solution for this I’m all ears.

Thats not much help but I do want to say: I HEAR YOU SISTER!

Checked your iron levels?

BrentfordForever · 16/07/2025 20:44

I was helped massively by

  • mostly protein throughout the day (if carbs it’d be legumes etc not flour stuff), Monday to Friday
  • gingko
  • fish oil
  • collagen
  • anti inflammatory for the eyes (macushield)
i had awful brain fog for years now very much on it and I’m nearly 50!

So this predates your pregnancy?

Have you have bloods done for the usual levels - B12, iron etc?

flyingmama94 · 16/07/2025 20:55

Nothing flagged up on bloods pre and post pregnancy had this for many years now - but just to be heard and listened to and not to made to feel like “its not a real problem” is a massive step in the right direction

Have you seen the numbers? The NHS are notorious for allowing levels lower than many other countries to pass as sufficient even when you're symptomatic.

redfishcat · 16/07/2025 21:05

Vitamin D deficiency can cause brain fog. You need to see the numbers in your blood tests results

As you are post partum, are you on any contraceptive? I say this as I felt very slow, drained and foggy a lot whilst on contraceptive, especially having the injection for me in later years of birth control (whilst it’s convenient) , the difference was very noticeable when I wasn’t on any, so much I have never gone back, yes I still feel tired some days but not foggy or slow thinking. It could be lack of iron or b vitamins, it’s worth exploring if you are taking contraceptives, to get the right ones.
