Seeing my nose in my vision permanently for the last 6 months

It randomly started 6 months ago and it hasn't left me since. i was getting pressure headaches couple weeks before it. and started hearing my heartbeat in my head a couple times a day. the headaches have eased off but the seeing my nose in my vision seems to be permanent. i went the eye hospital and my eyes have had a full MOT and they cant find anything wrong with them. except ive developed a slight turn in my dominate eye. my left eye has always had a squint since childhood. Im hoping other people have answers as you can imagine from the comments its scary and depressing. sometimes it can get a little overwhelming for a couple of seconds and i start to panic. im waiting to see neurology but im starting to doubt weather they will be able to help me or not. has anyone actually got rid of it. ive also had a full brain scan and that came back normal. has anybody had this and got their eyes back to normal

I've had this, it was anxiety and once you focus on it it gets worse as you get anxious about it.

i can still see it even though im not focusing on it though:(

yeah sounds like anxiety, you are aware of it as you are hyperstimulated constantly subconsciously even if you feel that you are not

MissyPants · 15/07/2025 07:33

To be honest I think it's always in vision. I can see it through the side of my eyes, but never really concentrated on it. So as you become more aware of it the more you tend to focus on it, so this can seem like it's worse than it is when in reality it's always been this way. Definitely subconscious awareness related.

ive seen several doctors, a n e trips, the eye hospital and not one of them has said it was anxiety. they have referred me over to neurology as they said its something to do with my brain. but i was hoping someone has had similar to my symptoms and gone back to normal:(

It’s normal to always see your nose.

That's completely normal, everyone can , you are focusing on it and getting anxious about it.

MsJemimaPuddleDuck · 15/07/2025 08:45

Its normal to see your nose, ive seen my nose for years. One day i was aware and ive never not seen it since but one of my eyes turn in (i have really strong glasses to try & fix it but doesnt always work when im tired.)
sounds like you also have similar to me if you have a turn in your eye

EssentialDecluttering · 15/07/2025 08:47

I can see mine without any effort other than looking towards it, but I hardly ever notice it IYSWIM. It's just there.

BearPear · 15/07/2025 08:49

You can always see it but it’s one of the unconscious things your brain does by tuning it out. You don’t “need” to see your nose but it’s always in line of sight, the brain just filters it out. I hope you get sorted OP, definitely sounds like an anxiety thing (yay Sertraline!)

The fact that everyone is saying its just anxiety literally annoys the crap out of me. For the past month, I have been seeing my nose in my vision. and I know it’s not anxiety because I literally woke up and could instantly see my nose as soon as I open my eyes and knew something felt different. Then it started feeling like I was looking out of my right eye. I left no matter what I do if I’m doing homework or if I am tending to my children, it’s there I could always see it at all times I’m a very busy woman so my mind is on a lot of many things so there have been times where I haven’t focused on it and I could still see it I’ve also started getting migraines frequently so I’m not sure if that has to do with it but what I looked up it said something about sinus infection so I’m going to try to cure my stuffy nose that I have been having and see if that fixes it I started to get a lot more anxiety now because of it and almost had a mental breakdown because it makes me feel like I can’t focus. I have an appointment next month, but if you find out what it is, let me know. You’re not alone.

Everyone can see their nose unless it's so small it's like a baby's nose but it's likely anxiety that you're fixating on it that's what posters are saying.

Greysowhat · 27/08/2025 08:50

I can see my nose. If it's a new thing it might be due to age. The cartilage stretches, thankyou gravity, and so the nose comes into vision.

But I understand your worry. I hope it goes well with neurology but hopefully it turns out to be nothing much.

jetlag92 · 27/08/2025 13:26

It's almost always due to a change in binocular vision status.
Your eye learn to ignore things which are habitually there - but a change in the eye position means that it's in a slightly different place than usual, so therefore isn't ignored. In you this equates to the "slight turn in your dominant eye".

Anyway, eventually your brain will ignore the image, but I would go and see someone who can help your strengthen the eye muscles. Either an orthoptist at the hospital or an optometrist specialising in binocular vision.
