If so how do you tell which is which?
I thought I knew the difference because I have osteoarthritis - wear and tear in my fingers and toes and the RA is different . With OA it's a gradual deterioration over years. Whereas with RA it's mostly palindromic where a single joint flares up, gets hot and swollen and very painful but it only lasts around 24 hours and is fully back to normal afterwards. This is followed by fatigue.
It's worse if it's a joint that's already damaged by RA.
Recently I had a flare in one hip. I've never had any problems in my hips before but this was excruciating and didn't stop after 24 hours like usual. In fact it's still moderately painful 8 weeks later.
I want to find out if the flare has done lasting damage or whether it wasn't an RA flare at all.
Rheumatologists just gave me a steroid injection which helped for a bit.
