Runners - make me feel better about my 10k time today

Just completed the BUPA 10kms today in London. Disappointed with my time - a slow 66 minutes and 2 seconds (although I did 'run' (plod!) throughout and did'nt walk at any point).

Slow though isn't it

Still, I have had a really bad cold this week and still have laryngitis and a productive cough. If I was 100% fit I would have gone faster...wouldn't I?

Still a bit peeved though.....

well done!

The weather was horrid, so I think you deserve a big cream cake just for taking part!

I didn't go out for my run yesterday because of the weather.

As for your time, my first 10k was 76 mins!! And that was in good weather and good health. Be proud of what you've done - it's a great achievement!

Aw thanks guys

Actually I think my 4 and 5 year old (and dh) deserve a medal. They stood there in the pouring rain for an hour waiting for me to cross the finish line

Sounds pretty darn good to me

  • thanks you've made me feel better about it!

Just had hoped to do sub 60 mins 'tis all. But there is always next time

The vast majority of the UK population couldn't run 10k (6.2 miles) and many couldn't walk it either. Be proud of yourself, it's a great achievement, stop doing yourself down !!

Find another race, enter and set yourself a realistic goal; in no time at all you'll be hooked and will find yourself going under the hour - honest.

In fact, you might find you like it so much you run further & further then enter a half marathon, then an adventure race or a marathon, then start explaining to your dp why you need more pairs of trainers than the rest of the family have shoes.... It's a slippery slope ;)

I recently did a 10km in 65 mins at was pretty chuffed with myself! So well done, I'd say!
(Have to say though I'd been training at well below 60, but it was windy and hilly on the day..)

handlemecarefully · 26/05/2008 19:23

Thanks Twink - actually I am going to do a 5 mile run around Moors Valley Country Park (nearer to where I live) on June 20th. I shall do that sub 50 mins!!!!

Blousy - I think you're right and I'm wrong. I am re-evaluating. We did okay with your 65 mins and my 66 didn't we!

I'll come wait at the finish for the Moors Valley one for ya

It would take me about 600mins to do 10k, so tis fabulous in my book

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 26/05/2008 19:25

hmc - My last 10k time was 66 minutes, I've done faster but all things considered (course/weather/amount of training)it was an OK time.

Agree with Twink (hello missus ) most people wouldn't even contemplate it!

handlemecarefully · 26/05/2008 19:25

Aw thanks Flamey

I'm really glad I started this thread
