My DD16 has experienced nausea for the last 3 months. She is slim but not underweight. Otherwise heakthy. She feels sick all of the time. She has not actually vomited but feels like she is going to. It seems worse when she eats, so very rarely finishes a small meal. She says she is not anxious and that she wants to eat. Pregnancy test is negative, no boyfriend etc but Dr tested to rule out. Dr took stool sample which was clear, and prescribed a medication to reduce stomach acid production. She has taken this for a month and it is no better. I wondered if it was linked to college/exams but it's the holidays now and it's still happening. She has been taking Propranolol 40mg for 14 months for migraine. She didn't get any side effects when she started taking it. Migraines have drastically reduced but I'm wondering if the medication could be causing the nausea. Any ideas please?

Could it be linked to food? Perhaps try using the anti inflammatory diet for a bit to see if she find that changes anything..

Propranolol can caused nausea and vomiting (very common side effect).

as I side note, has her bp and heart rate been monitored? Beta blockers reduce these and that can cause nausea

could it be low blood sugar, she's not eating much, is she.

This medicine may cause changes in your blood sugar levels

Tbh, I'd go back to your Dr.

3 months is quite a while for your daughter having to suffer. Be that Mum @PoppySim 🌻

Does she have pains in her stomach anywhere?

PoppySim · 12/07/2025 21:26

Thank you all. I'm going to go back to the doctor's with her this week. We had read propranolol can cause nausea when you first take it but that it wears off after a few weeks, so she is adamant it's not that. She is concerned if she stops taking the propranolol, the migraines will come back, which I understand. I will check her BP, I hadn't thought of that.
Thanks all for your replies 💐
