Vertigo

A friend has been suffering with this on & off. It sems to be getting worse. He is 70 and otherwise very fit and healthy. Can still ride a bike up a hill like a bloody teenager, he puts me to shame!

His mother & sister both had the same thing (possibly genetic component)?

Has anyone else dealt with it and is there any real treatment? It doesn't happen frequently, just the odd bout where he'd have to stay home for a day or two.

He'll be seeing a doctor next week, I just wanted to ask about other's experiences?

I have vertigo on and off due to migraines.
Sometimes its worse than other days.

Depends on type of vertigo. I had positional vertigo, given exercises by doc and it went away after a few weeks.

I had a bout a couple of years ago. Was scary and debilitating. I did the Epley manoeuvre a few times a day (following a YouTube tutorial) and that helped a bit.

I got prescribed antibiotics for something completely unrelated, and that seemed to completely get rid of all the symptoms.

Good luck to your friend, it’s not nice.

I had this too and still have the occasional flare ups - mine I think is positional too from tossing and turning in the night. I started religiously doing regular vertigo exercises (googled) and I take prochlorperazine at the first sign of it and it usually stops it in its tracks!

I had vertigo a few years ago. GP diagnosed it as BPPV( benign paroxysmal postural vertigo). It was awful as I could barely move my head without feeling extremely dizzy and nauseous. I got tablets to help with the nausea which helped a bit . GP got me to do the Epley manoeuvre which made me feel worse at first.I still occasionally get fleeting episodes of vertigo ,but nothing like the first time I experienced it.

Thanks all. He gets the nausea too but not to the point of vomiting.

I'll pass on your words of wisdom and we'll see what the doctor has to say next week.
