Immune suppressant and pain relief

Wonder if anyone can help. At wits end.

I take an immune suppressant. The condition I take it for isn't relevant.

I forgot to take it on Friday, so took it slightly early on Sat. Then on Sunday, I took it at usual evening time.

In the morning on Sunday started to develop a migraine which I have had all day. This has happened before when I miss a dose. Started to burn up, this disappeared after I took the Sunday dose.

But the migraine. I can't cope. I took 2 paracetamol which does nothing.

The GP gave me Naproxen a while back which I tried once. I remember it made me v tired and I felt like it was the extra sleep that cleared the migraine.

I've got a really busy week and have to be awake early. In two minds whether to take naproxen, I might do.

But bigger question is can I stop the migraine before it kicks in? Is there anything? As this is hell. I can't process auditory information, light hurts, I feel nauseous and want to cry.

I can't manage a full time job with these migraines which happen about once a month and last three days. It's ruining my life.

I know stress is a trigger but sometimes stress in unavoidable.

Anyone on immune suppressants can relate? Anyone got migraine advice? Help.

It depends on the immunosuppressant. Most are okay with naproxen. DMARDs like Methotrexate you have to be careful.
If I am in midst of migraine, I find putting my feet in warm water with something cold on my head helps. After many years suffering with migraines, I take Amitriptyline for prevention and sumatriptan if they kick in. Absolute game changer! Mine have reduced in frequency and severity.

Thanks. Naporoxen has taken it from a 9 to an 8. Maybe need to see GP.

Currently have a cool gel pillow.

I'm on immune suppressants and also suffer from migraines. If I feel a headache coming on I know it'll be a migraine. I take 2x paracetamol and 2x ibuprofen, it's the only way I'm able to stop the migraine. Paracetamol on its own doesn't work for me. If possible I lie down in a dark room after taking the meds.

Hi Thanks for this, I will try that next time.

The naproxen, touch wood, has helped, I slept and am not in agony.

I’m not on immune suppressants but I do get migraines (less so now). They tend to occur when very tired and stress has built up. I sometimes start with a visual disturbance and if I clock it then I’ll take the same as @AllFadestoBlack x2 paracetamol and x2 ibuprofen. I have to lie in a dark room cool flannel on my head. Mostly I sleep it off and it’s gone the next day. Others I know with migraines also talk about talking medication at the first sign of migraine and sleeping it off.

Do you do things to help manage stress on a regular basis - exercise or other hobbies?

Sounds like a conversation with your GP or dr involved with your immune condition might be helpful. A pharmacist might also be able to advise.

Hope you find something to help migraines they can very debilitating and painful. Hope others have advice for you.

You can’t mix ibuprofen and naproxen. Naproxen is like a stronger ibuprofen.

Ah OK thanks. It's quite hard to figure it all out. I'm not even sure what Naproxen is. But I just took one (without paracetamol or ibuprofen) and it works within about 10 mins so I am not complaining!

Is it addictive? Don't have the box anymore. This migraine shows no sign of going.

Mine are related to a bad night sleep, or accidentally missing a dose of the immune suppressant. Sometimes stress but usually it's lack of sleep plus stress. Which means must sleep well when stressed. Sometimes hormonal but can usually stave those ones off as long as no caffeine (I've quit it anyway) and not too much sugar before I am due on.

The problem is that once they start it's usually when I have a lot on (and having a lot on has kept me awake worrying) and so I can't really just take a drug and sleep it off. Because at this point it's usually deadlines that I have to meet at work.

I need some kind of wellbeing coach to work with me on locking down all the things I need to do to stay well.
