Is it normal for an ill toddler to want to sleep all day?

Ds is 16 months, and had diarrhoea and vomiting and a fever yesterday, and today I think he has a sore throat. He was checked by a doctor yesterday, and he said he thought everything was ok.
But today he slept late, I gave him some calpol, he has been whinging when he was awake and just wanted to be cuddled. And now he has been asleep on the sofa for the past hour and a half (or since 9 this morning, on and off).
Is this normal ill toddler behaviour?

Dd1 who is 3.9 has slept most of the day and all night since Thursday afternoon. Had her at the doc and diagnosed as having strep throat so yes totally normal.

I would think about getting him checked again if no better tomorrow or even today if you are very worried.

My dd is a bit older, she will be 4 next month, but she was exactly like this on thursday. SHe woke up in the night with a huge temperature and feeling ill, and in the morning she still had a temperature and kept being sick, not able to keep water or medicine down. I took her to an emergency appointment with the GP who said she had tonsillitus (as did I, even though I have no tonsils ) She was incredibly sleepy and clingy all day, which is not like her at all It might be worth going back and seeing if you can get some antibiotics? Dd was prescribed penicillin and paracetamol and really perked up after the first dose. A sore throat can be really horrible for them, and lookign at dds tonsils made me realise how enormous and sore they were

thanks for your reassurance.

I know he has a sore throat, as he ate some pasta and obvioulsy found it uncomfortable to swallow, but doc checked it yesterday, and didnt say anything about tonsils or anything.

I think I might rouse him and try to give him some milk...

I find this is exactly what the boys do when they are under the weather, sleep seems to be restorative.
hope your little one feels better soon..
