Bruising on both breasts?

(TW: I mention miscarriage and breast issues)

Hi everyone,

Im going to see the doctor tomorrow, but thought I’d ask on here in case anyone has had something similar.

I noticed last week that my veins on my breasts looked a lot darker than usual. I have no lumps, no pain, no itchiness, they’re not hot or cold either.

Today I noticed these bruise-looking marks on both of my breasts. (I’ve put a sensitive pic as it’s not the most flattering).

For context:

  • I haven’t had surgery on them
  • I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks, 2 weeks ago (I’m unsure if this is relevant)
  • There’s no history of breast cancer in the family
  • I’m 24 with no children yet
  • I currently have a cold (or possibly Covid - which I’m also unsure if this matters).

Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated :)

I’ve not viewed your photos as I am no expert.

i am however commenting help keep this bumped for someone who is more knowledgeable and sending unmumsnetty hugs and 💐 for both your miscarriage and for the worry you are currently going through 💐

I would think it's a circulation issue following miscarriage. But you should get proper medical advice not from us. Can you go to the out of hours ?

MedievalNun · 02/07/2025 19:47

Looks like they’re inflamed which could possibly be an infection?

You say you’re going to see your GP tomorrow, they should be able to help.

Sending a hug for tonight xx

I did think about circulation.

I don’t think it requires out of hours or emergency care, and I’m going to the doctors tomorrow, but it’s always helpful to speak to other people who may have had something similar :)

Thank you

I developed that on both breasts after I had my first child. It can look like bruising but when you look close they're actually tiny spider veins. Have had multiple breast checks by the doctor who confirmed them as spider veins.

For me, if I'm in the shower or really warm they basically disappear, it's when I'm cold (or have no bra on, saggy boobs after three children 🙈) that they take on the bruised look due to the purple veins becoming prominent.

Hope the doctor can reassure you

How did you get on with the GP today? X
