Suddenly worse astigmatism, myopia and long sighted at 45?

Hi all just had the opticians as I could tell my close vision was now rubbish. She has found my astigmatism has also got worse and also my myopia. I always thought myopia didn’t get worse after mid 20s so am a little concerned something else is going on as I am 45 and my eye test before this was 2 years ago but she just said sometimes it happens. Has anyone had the same experience? I know it’s normal for close vision to go at my age but the other 2? Google says alll sorts of scary stuff so I thought I’d ask you lovely lot first hand of your experiences. Thank you

I’m in my 50s and always still need my distance vision of my varifocal strengthened regularly and have never had cause to worry about that

I have moderately bad myopia ( -6.5) astigmatism, and of course, now old age presbyopia.
My distance vision still deteriorates slightly at each check up, the astigmatism is getting worse and my reading glasses ever stronger. My optician says it's normal... some people's eyes do stabilise, but many don't!

My Myopia takes a dip every few years!!! (I'm 57)

@Sonolanona thankyou. It seems to be one eye that's hanging the most. Hopefully will stabilise at some point. It's quite scary how quickly its all happened x

Well 45 is bang on time for vision deterioration. Join the crowd! Varifocals are very good. It's costly but absolutely the best thing for only needing one pair of glasses. They even do varifocal contacts.

My eyesight barely changed for decades and then all of a sudden fell off a cliff once I hit 42. Suddenly couldn’t read any small print! Not yet stabilised a few years later but optician said perfectly normal.

I'm 45 and my distance vision is still deteriorating. I've just reached the stage where I have to take off my glasses for close work.

During my 50's my eyes deteriorated at an alarming rate, I wasnt getting two years between prescriptions . Just in my 60's now and I do have to get distance adjusted still

My optician said that its quite common for a rapid deterioration during the 40's/50's, something to do with how the astigmatism changes with aging

I can no longer make out anything - distance or close up without glasses

What's your old and new prescriptions?

It is usual for against the rule astigmatism to increase as we age. It's less likely for myopia to increase, but it's not uncommon (I'm an optometrist).

At my last appointment (early 50s) the optician said my astigmatism had got worse but my myopia had improved so they cancelled each other out. I don't think there is anything sinister in your test results. I always get the extra bit where they look right in to the back of your eye as wel..
