NHS vs Private Crown

I need to have an old crown replaced on my front tooth. My dentist has quoted around £300 for an NHS crown and twice that for private. He says a private crown will be aesthetically much nicer and will be a better match with my other teeth. Obviously because it’s a front tooth I want it to look right but wondering if it’s really worth twice the price to go private?

Lucky he has offered an NHS one. Our"NHS" dentist no longer does crowns or root canals.- just extractions, check ups and fillings. The price is good. My crown replacement last month cost £880 for a front tooth (dentist used a milling machine/furnance did it all in a 2 hour appointment).
I'd want to know how the crown differs on NHS/private - as the dentist chooses the colour shade to match your other teeth. Is the non NHS one made of a different material? (e.g. metal free - so a bit more transluscent?). The in house system my dentist used involved taking 3 D intra oral scans to produce a plan to get a bespoke fit - supposedly better than those made in a traditional lab for my age related receding gum.

Replacing just one front tooth crown is , aesthetically, one of the most difficult things to do .

There is a far greater selection of materials, colours and stains available privately and eg if shade matching is difficult most labs used privately will offer you to come in for the technician to check the shade.

A NHS crown will fit and look OK but a private crown will allow for a far greater choice of materials and customisation and the laboratory will spend a lot longer on the making of the crown and use better materials .

@SapatSea - thanks, my quote is v reasonable compared to what you paid then. I also have receding gums which has caused a gap between gum and crown. It sounds like going private might be a good plan.

@Lollygaggle - thanks. It does seem like private will be a better option, especially to get the right shade as it will look odd if it doesn’t quite match my other front tooth!
