Cosmetic mole removal - London

I am considering having a mole on my face removed and starting to look into private clinics and wonder if anyone has recommendations so I can start to narrow down all the options.

Has anyone removed a mole on their face and regretted it? What started as a tiny ‘beauty spot’ under my eye as a child has steadily grown. It doesn’t bother me huge amounts as it is, unless I really look up close from all angles and think about it, but both my grandparents had very large facial moles and I’m conscious this one will be like their’s as I get older and become more difficult/conspicuous to remove. It’s been part of my face for 36 years, so at this point I’m also not 100% sure I want to take it away! But have been thinking about it for a couple of years and thinking further into the future.

I clicked on your post as I recently had a mole removed, but not for cosmetic reasons - it was removed for a biopsy to check for cancer. It wasn’t on my face. I’ll have quite a scar, but I’m guessing the surgeon would have had to go deeper than you would need. Something I wonder is whether your grandparents minded their large moles? I find that as I age, I care less and less about things like that.

I had 3 moles removed at The London Clinic, one of which was on my face. They all looked suspicious (biopsies were clear) so were deeply and thoroughly removed rather than shaving the top off, the scarring was very different for each one.

The way they stitch is that after cutting out the mole you end up with a line scar which is at least twice the length of the original mole.

The one on my face is quite red but pretty flat, but the skin around it is a little puckered; it was on my cheek, perhaps under the eye might be more of a risk with pulling the skin?

I much prefer my scars to the 3 large ugly moles I had before!

Could your mole be shaved off rather than cut out? That would reduce scarring.

I had a mole on the chin for many years that bothered me. It wasn’t very big, but it was visible and I started noticing hair growing out of it and I wanted it gone.

I went to a private clinic and I’m not sure if this is normal procedure, but he blindfolded me while he did the procedure under local anaesthetic. it was quite quick, maybe about 45 minutes in total with the forms, talking through the procedure and price etc. There was a slight scar but as the years have passed, there’s hardly any noticeable scarring. I don’t regret.

Thanks - no you’re right, mine should be more surface level. That’s a great question, no I don’t think they did mind – they’re Chinese and common for that ethnicity, at least I think so, as I remember so many elderly relatives with large moles!

@LycheeFizz , do you mind me asking how much you paid for mole removal at the London Clinic?

LycheeFizz · 30/06/2025 21:56

I paid £1400 for everything - initial consultation, procedure, wound check, biopsy testing, follow up consultation in person and final phone call check up.

I second The London Clinic, specifically Dr Emma Benton

Lovely lady too
