We’ve called 111, and waiting but in the meantime just wondering if anyone has experienced the same? Not asking for medical advice, just to share your experience.

She seems well in herself, no other symptoms, just a rash all over. Could it be sensitivity or side effect of penicillin? Thanks!

She needs to see a doctor and after this episode, maybe be tested? It could be a viral urticaria which is very common and pretty dramatic looking, though a diagnosis of exclusion. It would be a shame to write her off with a penicillin allergy all her life when she has viral urticaria, but obviously worse to dismiss a penicillin allergy. There are a number of things it could also be. Paediatrics would be able to advise, though you may need to pay for a private consultation if your child is currently well.

Thanks @TwoUnderTwitTwooyes we are open to doing and hearing all. Waiting for dr to ring back. Took her to A&E last night when rash first appeared but I left without seeing a dr as she seemed well and it didn’t seem like an ‘A’ or and ‘E’ so I didn’t want to waste anyone’s time.
I’m grateful for your input. Thank you.

Very worrying for you, I hope she is doing okay. Both Dh and I are labelled as allergic to penicillin. Dh had a rash when he was a child and so to be on the safe side (1980s) they labelled him as such. I had scarlet fever in my late teens (1990s) and was prescribed penicillin. From the first dose my face swelled up, my eyes were like slits, my throat constricted and it was a terrifying experience. I wear a medic alert bracelet.

I have tried to see if I can get tested now to see if I still have it but it is usually done if they think it was misdiagnosed in the first place which seems unlikely with me and it has to be done under supervision. You could probably pay privately, I am not sure what options are available to chidlren. Every time the allergic to penicillin comes up they ask what symptoms I had to rule out the possibility that I was misdiagnosed. They won't give me penicillin, not worth the risk.

However, Ds1 gets hives from other illnesses, so he had slapped cheek and hives for example. He seems to rash up with anything that goes wrong with him. He is now an adult but I have so many photos of rashes that I uploaded to his GP over the years Grin

I hope it is just a coincidence for your DD, penicillin is a great antibiotic.

@abigxforyou Thanks so much for sharing. We just left a party (I checked she wasn’t contagious before hand) and I ended up being sat between two Drs (one GP and one hospital internal medic) and both said it was a typical / clear drug related rash and that she has a penicillin allergy rash. They checked her over and said it wasn’t serious but we need to stop taking the antibiotics and get a new one. We then had a gp appointment 1hr later organised by 111 who confirmed the same and gave us a new prescription. They all confirmed it’s nothing serious thank goodness.

I am glad it didn't turn into anything more serious than the rash and at least you know now definitively that she is allergic. Hope she gets better soon.

DD had this it just means she’s sensitive to penicillin so just has different antibiotics now. If there was only penicillin available she could still have it as she’s not allergic just sensitive.
