My husband and I are taking a long flight (14 hours) next week. This will be his first flight since he had a total hip replacement due to an accident. I'm really keen to do everything we can to prevent him from developing a blood clot. I'm considering buying an inflatable footrest, but I'm not sure which type would be best for him. Could anyone recommend which is better ?

Hammock type or

Some airlines don’t allow the hammock style ones that hang off the tray table - I bought one a few years back and when I used it on a flight I was told to take it off as apparently they can ‘damage’ the tray tables 🤷🏻‍♀️

I used the hammock ones this year to Oz - literally no one noticed. This was on BA/Malaysia/Qatar Airways.

Get good compression socks, he should get up and move every couple of hours. Look at taking an asprin before he gets on the plane (depending on other illnesses and medicines he takes)

elevating his feet might not work in economy as there often isnt enough space to use either a hammock or a inflatable, can you afford premium economy?

That seems much stricter than I had imagined. We're flying with All Nippon Airways, and their official website even shows a picture of them lending footrests for domestic flights – we have a domestic leg too. However, when we called yesterday to reserve one, they told us we'd have to bring our own. They also informed us we'd need to be in a window seat.

Ah you’d probably be alright then! It was BA I had the issue with!

Is there a premium economy option that your DH could upgrade to for the flight? The seats are much bigger with more legroom and usually have build in leg rests too.
