Possible Fungal Nail Infection

I went for a Podiatory appointment yesterday after a marathon bruised many toenails. She said I had a possible fungal infection in one of my big toenails. There’s a yellow/white strip down one edge of it - all other toenails are fine, albeit battered! She did an instant fungal nail test and that came back as negative for fungal infection and said she would send off to have lab pathology done (as the instant test was negative and she thinks it’s an infection, albeit contained and fairly mild right now).

any tips in the meantime so I can get a head start in the event it is fungal. The results will take 2 to 3 weeks to come back so I’m thinking throw something at it now. She recommended some light you clip on to your toe for 3 mins per day for the cool cost of £90 and curanail. I can’t afford £90 for a clippy toe light!!

A lot of people recommend putting Vicks on your toe nails overnight , with socks on. I haven't tried it yet though as I can't wear socks at night..

I have used various solutions from Boots, but nothing has ever fixed mine, so it might be time to give the Vicks a go.

Scholl do a fungal nail treatment that you paint on. I used it many years ago when I had a fungal nail infection and it cleared it right up.

I stopped wearing nail varnish and found that helped loads and some of it grew out over time with no other treatment

Could be nail psoriasis? Looks exactly like a fungal nail infection

I hadn’t thought about this. She assumed it was fungal due to “debris” but then was surprised when the test was negative! So if a slightly yellow nail with some flaky rubbish underneath could be nail psoriasis that could be it! Again caused by ridiculous wear and tear from a marathon!
