I had a colonoscopy a year ago. Went to GP in March. Ultrasound scan ok. I mainly poo hard lumps. Sometimes brown mucus. Pink seen in mucus three weeks ago. GP now doing poo and blood tests. I would like to add that on Fitbit my heart rate variability is 33. I was also diagnosed with a pelvic blood clot in June last year. Any support appreciated.

are you on any particular diet? Sounds like pink mucus could be linked to blood clot?

Jollyjo8 · 23/06/2025 21:38

Thank you. The blood clot is/ was a DVT. I am on a coeliac diet.

Do you take anything to soften the stool type that you're having? The pink mucous sounds like it could be caused by a fissure or internal piles especially if you need to strain for the hard stools. Are you diagnosed coeliacs?

You're doing the right thing! I've had a couple of colonoscopies - first one was nearly 3 years ago and more recent one found inflammation, plus a couple of other issues - was referred for a CT scan and now having more investigations to rule out IBD.
Poo test will rule out high inflammatory markers (mine were through the roof) and blood in stool (that was neg for me and always has been, have had a few stool tests with my dodgy insides).

Thank you. I haven’t taken any laxatives. I shouted that last year I lost weight gained a bit on gluten free but have lost a bit in the past month. Worried about cancer particularly as I have a blood clot with no cause.

I have had similar (colonoscopy in November 24) From Easter I had bleeding and high calprotectin so the GP referred me again in May. A triage nurse said that there was no way that even a polyp could have grown in that time so definitely no cancer (and no IBD). I am having an ultrasound next week but she suggested that I take Symprove in the meantime, which I've done. Within two weeks I saw a massive change and I am 95% better. Normal movements, no more blood. I've had coeliac ruled out in my case.

I wonder if colonoscopies wipe out your good bacteria and some people need extra help to repopulate. Might be worth a try while you wait for other investigations.

I can’t thank you enough for replying. I would be interested to know how long after your colonoscopy you were referred again? I’m looking at Symprove. Thank you again.

I had the colonoscopy in November and all seemed fine afterwards.

Around January I had the odd weird movement but nothing concerning.

But around Easter I started getting symptoms again and had a new FIT test and calprotectin test (both positive) so the GP referred me again - so about 5-6 months. As I mentioned above, the nurse called and said they wouldn't do another colonoscopy so soon as the other one had been clear but spoke to the consultant who'd been in charge of my clinic and he suggested the ultrasound. But in the meantime I tried the Synprove and it has worked for me. There's the odd thing I eat which my stomach obviously doesn't like but it has been a mini miracle.

At times I was going to the loo 10 times a day and there was a lot of (bright red) blood. A minimum of 4. I am back to once or twice and no visible blood.

Thank you. I have pebble poo tightening in upper abdomen after eating. I had an ultrasound in May normal. Poo and blood tests this week. GP said anything not normal on two week pathway.

seriously what now, @dynamiccactus ….?

dynamiccactus · 29/06/2025 17:29

When you have a colonoscopy, you need to be completely cleared out - so all your good bacteria and bad bacteria get cleared out with the contents of your bowels.

My thought was whether some people need extra help to repopulate their bowels with good bacteria. I did start eating kefir yogurt after the scope (and still do) but perhaps it wasn't enough.

It also wondered if it could have also been hormonal. But anyway, the Symprove has worked.

Your post sounded rather rude, by the way. This is not AIBU (not that posting in AIBU should mean you can be rude).
