More Mammogram Panic, Please Help

I posted the other day about getting a missed call after having a mammogram. It turned out to be a spam call so I felt better about it.

However, tonight I have come home to an envelope from the hospital containing four maps detailing how to get to the breast clinic. No letter, I am now in a sheer panic thinking there was meant to be a letter calling me back and they missed it out. I can't ring them until Monday now as they are closed over the weekend.

I had the mammogram on Wednesday. Is it too soon to be called back? There are no results showing on my NHS app. This isnt my first mammogram by the way. My GP examined my breasts a month ago and said all was fine.

Has anyone had this before? I'm going crazy here.

Check your nhs app for any appointments. If there was meant to be one in the letter it should show there.
And please try not to worry

Thanks but I didn't get the first appointment on my app.

When i had a mammogram recently, I was told it would be 3-4 weeks for the results. Was it 2 days ago you had yours? I doubt a letter would have got to you in that time.

It could be a delayed letter telling you how to get to the appointment you’ve already been to.

Don’t panic. Phone them Monday to check

Yes it was two days ago I had the mammogram. The lady who did it told me it would be two to three weeks for the results but my sister in law had hers within a week and was all OK.

But I'd have thought that if you are getting a recall they would send a letter straight away and if you don't hear straight away you can assume all is OK.

I am just hoping its an admin error but why send all those maps to me and no one else?

Try not to panic too much. Most people recalled after a routine scan don’t have anything sinister going on. My recall ended with the consultant telling me “well, you just have fatty breasts” (tell me something I don't know mate!!). They needed to repeat the mammogram, and did a thorough ultrasounding thought, just to be sure. They would rather just double check, than potentially miss something, hence the far higher recall rate to cancers detected.

If it was your first mammogram then it comes with a higher chance of recall, as this is the first time they are seeing your boobs, so they have nothing to compare it to (if that makes sense). Once they have an old scan to compare any future ones then there’s a little less chance of recall (though fatty changes or cysts etc. can still lead to needing a recheck).

Call the breast clinic first thing Monday to check if you have an appointment.
