Bloody asthma again

Bit of background - I became unwell with a cough 2 years ago and was fobbed off by my GP for so long that I ended up in hospital when my oxygen levels dropped to 80%. Turns out I had RSV and then developed asthma. It took me a long time to recover and had some problems but my asthma nurse was very on it and this past year has been much better.

Fast forward - I've caught some kind of cough from my kid and then last night I just felt it stick in my chest. I don't have asthma attacks, just a cough and then this horrible fatigue. It always happens this way when it's not under control. I don't feel it's bad enough to go to the nurse (and all I ever get is antibiotics and/or steroids if its bad). But it just so annoyed to be knocked down in my tracks by the bloody fatigue. Does anyone have any practical advice as to how to get through this? The Internet says to rest but that's all very well when I still have to go to work and have young kids to look after. I'm also due to go on holiday in a couple of weeks and I'll be gutted if it's not improved. It seems every June I catch some kind of child's respiratory illness and it ruins the holidays! Sorry for the rant.

Do you have a daily preventer inhaler? Do you have an asthma plan? My plan (common sense and medical advice) allows for the increased use of my preventer in these cases, so instead of 1 puff twice a day I increase to 2 puffs twice a day. Your reliever inhaler should help the cough too but again this should all be in your plan. Hope you feel better soon.

You need a preventer inhaler.
Are you on any kind of antihistamine? My asthma is worse when the pollen count is high.
Ask for a preventer inhaler - you can be on a low dose year round and then increase it when you need to.

Long term asthmatic here. Just whack up your preventer and the ventolin. I don't bother with the asthma nurse, straight to the GP if necessary.

I get 3 viral coughs a year and nothing speeds them up. I just have to crack on. I managed a 7hr flight to NYC once, trying not to cough, but then had to leave Lulu Lemon on 5th Ave as the cough was so bad I could have laid down on the floor and died!

Hope you feel better soon. My regular coughs come in September, December and March!
