A child on her table has such a severe/untreated/whatever case of headlice that she was sent to school nurse and apparently had a full hairwash & comb through.

Apparently sh ehad a bug fall out of her hair onto her work even after being treated.

I didn't think Schools/nurses coud do this? (Not that I necessarily disagree, as long as it is consented)

Erk! DH used to teach a girl who had permanent headlice - he used to watch them crawl about on her hair .

I don't know what the situation is with the nurse treating it, presumably there was consent in some form from the parents. I doubt any one could or would do it without. Too much potential trouble.

But you still see them arguing that they are not allowed to check for nits let alone treat....they don't specify anything about consent...

They wouldn't need to check her if they were falling out ! TBH, I think nit nurses were phased out due to funding issues more than anything else.

Perhaps they rang home and got verbal consent. I honestly can't imagine the school allowing the nurse to do it without any consent.

Is there other issues with the child's home life that may require intervention from the school nurse?

I'm just trying to think of a scenario where the school would treat headlice on site.

How old are they?

I would be very surprised if this happened as described. I'm not saying it shouldn't - just that it wouldn't.

We had to do this once at nursery but the child had severe eczema and no amount of telling the parents would get it treated. Mum kept saying the treatments were affecting the eczema which is fair enough but we were of the opinion that the lice would also be making it worse. She did give us permission to treat him though, saying that he never let her and would probably let us.
