Feel weak and tired all of the time

Can anyone help me please?

I am in my late 60s and have a long list of chronic conditions that I have suffered and struggled with for almost 20 years. In addition, I also have severe depression and anxiety. DH also has a list of physical issues.

We are in the process of moving into a bungalow, so that is stressful. Over the last few months, I have done all of the organisation to do with moving, from my bed. DH cannot help much as he is not computer literate. I feel that there has been a huge weight on my shoulders.

A couple of months ago, I had two accidents a month apart in the house that caused injuries to my left shoulder and arm, with lots of pain and bruising. Thankfully, I have now recovered, but I am left with debilitating fatigue and exhaustion. I sleep well, but wake up feeling tired.

Can anyone suggest what I could do to regain some energy? I am so miserable and unhappy and don’t know what to do.

I had them done a few months ago and was put on iron tablets. But haven’t noticed any benefits. Thanks for replying.

Go back to GP. Your body may not be absorbing the iron

Blood tests, especially iron studies, vitamin D, B12, folate, and thyroid. I’d ask about an iron infusion. So much more effective than tablets and faster.

Do you snore or wake up with a headache or sore throat or frequently need to wee during the night? It could be sleep apnoea. That will definitely leave you feeling like crap despite sleeping. Sleep study for that.

Have you been eating well while you’ve been injured? Have you been able to cook or has DH been cooking? Poor nutrition without enough good protein and fruits and vegetables will leave you feeling tired. A meal delivery service might be an alternative way to get some decent meals if neither of you are able to cook much at the moment.

The Op may have chronic fatigue/me.

Ive been bedbound over a year with it. It’s not a choice. It’s not always as easy as that.

Sympathies, @GurlWithACurl - and I agree you need more investigation of your health issues.

What caused the accidents?

And - is your husband able to be of any moral or practical support at all?

You have to accept your depleted energy and minimise what you do, not try and push through it.

Whilst l understand your desire to move you would recover sooner with no stress on you. You may have to postpone until you’re better.

Spatone, can get it from Amazon or even from most supermarkets. It’s more easily absorbed than the iron in tablet form. Put in a glass of orange juice.

i physically feel like i glow when I take it, the difference is noticable.

Thank you all for your helpful replies. I spend most of my life in bed for a number of reasons, but the move to a bungalow will help with some of those. I have chronic cough which means I need to get to a toilet quickly and we only have an upstairs bathroom here. A stroke gave me other issues and I feel safer in bed. Every day, I try to go downstairs for a few hours to be with DH. I am going to try to be braver when we move. Oh, and I don’t have sleep issues, thank goodness! I eat as well as I can, but could improve the fruit and veg. DH was a great cook but can’t stand for long now and we rely on ready meals.

We will be moving into our bungalow in around six weeks, so that should help with the stress and some other issues.

I will take on board many of the suggestions. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to get an appointment at our surgery. Their telephone system is a nightmare, but I will try.

My injuries were caused by two things. I tried to help out by carrying a rubbish bag out to the bin. It was a bit too heavy and I injured something in my neck which radiated down into my shoulder, elbow and wrist. Then, I fell over a chair in the dark on the way to the loo and bruised all of the same side of my body. All that has now healed.
