Eczema

My DS has got Eczema. The GP said that its not a bad case of Eczema and as long as we keep on top of it, it will clear up.

We were about to try him with some peanut butter or nutella and was told by someone I work with that he can't have nuts because he has eczema as it could be a sign he is allergic to nuts.

Is the eczema a sign of a nut allergy? GP didn't mention this and I've not heard it before.

Any help is most welcome?

Thanks

BTW DS is 14 months old.

No, eczema is not a sign of a nut allergy, although most children who have nut allergy have had eczema at some point in their lives.

Considering the atopic backgound, I would wait until he is 3 yrs old.

Thanks, I'll wait until I give him some.

eczema and asthma are often linked and ppl who have asthma are more likely to allergic to nuts than those who dont. (i think that is where there concerns came from)

however just because you have eczema doest mean that you definatley have asthma and just because you have asthma doesnt mean that you will definatetly be allergic to nuts

so chances are you ds will be fine but if you are still worried give him just a tiny amount at first and see how he goes on that

Mine put a peanut in his mouth and spat it out... and that moment changed our lives forever. If he has the sensitivity a "tiny" exposure may cause trouble.

But as I said, this is a precaution you can choose to take, not all children with eczema will go into develop more allergies.

He has had the crust of a piece of toast my DH had that had peanut butter on it but the piece he had didn't have any peanut butter on.

I know with my friend who is allergic that would have caused a reaction. He has his annual review next week so I will ask the HV what she thinks would be best.
