Sore area on head behind ear

Would you go to the gp for this? Sunday morning I woke up with a sharp stabbing pain on my head behind my right ear (top of ear, not lobe) and I'm not sure if I've got a swollen lymph node up there or something. I also had pain in my lower right molar, jaw and ear. Most of the pain has subsided but still have this tender area. I think it was tender to begin with but also questioning if I could have just made it sore by rubbing the area due to the sharp pain.
Either way, it's making me anxious and I'm not sure what to do about it.

I wear hearing aids and get sharp pains in my ears from time to time so I feel I should get it checked in case it's an ear infection/impacted wax but don't even know if the gp would do anything about that.

Ah,my first question was going to be "do you wear hearing aids". I do plus glasses for distance, watching TV and driving. My right ear has a larger ear piece and I do sometimes get a sore area just at the top of my ear, but nothing visible. My hearing loss was caused by COVID, and I was told it's eustachian tube and nerve issues. I frequently get the pains you described when going up and down hills in the car. HOWEVER, my cousin suddenly went deaf, had similar issues to you, and it was actually a tooth abscess! Are you under an audiology clinic? I am and can email them or ring for advice and pretty quick appointments.

@Nannyfannybanny audiology isn't a bad shout actually, although I'm a fair drive away from my hospital. It's awkward as I don't know what's causing the pain but should probably get someone, somewhere to look at it.

Is the pain continuous? Ear wax normally causes hearing issues, where I live in the SE, surgery nurses don't remove it anymore, you get packed off to the pharmacy for eardrops,or somewhere like Specsavers..if you have ever had earache because of an infection, you know about it,it's agony..my cousin had no idea he had a tooth abscess,he regularly attends the dentist,so that's worth considering.

@Nannyfannybanny coincidentally I had a dentist appointment today. I don't have an abscess but I do have a molar with a couple of small hairline cracks and a very worn filling so I am going to have to have an onlay or a crown. It also has an impacted wisdom tooth pushing in to it, which doesn't help. On top of that, I have TMJD, which has been bad recently so that it another potential cause for the pain.

I managed to get my ear checked out at the GP in the end and it was fine!

Ah thanks for the update I was thinking TMJD as well, glad you got sorted. During lockdown I started getting a throbbing in my top gum, jaw,my lovely dentist actually saw me!! Wearing full PPE.said it was a huge filling from 16 years ago (broke the tooth on a chuppa lolly) did I want it removed, you'd be able to see it, I can't afford implants or anything,so decided to keep an eye. It played up now and then, she did tests, said it's dead,it's not causing me issues,so I'm leaving it be.
