Mad itching on palm of hands

Isn't there an old joke about that making me insane?

The fleshy bit on my hand is madly itchy, the bit running vertically down to my wrist from my little finger. There's no redness or signs of allergy, nothing on the skin.I haven't changed diet, washing powders etc recently.

Is it possible this could be related to a problem in another part of the body, in a reflexology kinda way? I remember this happening at various stages in my adult life but I never took enough notice to establish a pattern. Anyone got any theories?

If you're pregnant it could be cholestasis. If not, weirdey itchy hand disease.

BlueDragonfly · 22/05/2008 10:55

Are you PG? if so you will need blood tests to check liver function.

If not...erm...eczema?(how do you spell that word>?!)...an insect bite? erm.....will go with hulygully and say weirdly itchy hand disease

Mhamai · 22/05/2008 10:57

Medical definition an allergy of some sort.
Mystic Meg definition your coming into money.

Tippychick · 22/05/2008 11:01

Not PG!
There's no sign of a bite or allergy, that's why I wondered it it could be related to liver sluggishness or something like that, you know in the way parts of the feet are supposed to be connected to organs?

Ah ignore me, it's obviously connected to the insanity. As a preference I'm going with MM's prediction, thanks Mhamai

Itching can be a sign of livers problems whether you are pg or not, so even if not it might be worth seeing your doctor for a liver function test. IIRC it can vary during your cycle due to the effect of hormones, which might explain why it comes and goes.

BlueDragonfly · 22/05/2008 11:03

are you a belated werewolf?

learningallthetime · 22/05/2008 11:05

isn't an itchy palm meant to signal coming into money?

Mhamai · 22/05/2008 11:05

[hhm]

Mhamai · 22/05/2008 11:06

and doh!

Ettenna · 22/05/2008 11:09

Have you recebntly changed washing-up liquid or anything else your hands are in contact with? I have dry, sensitive hands and they react like yours to new/harsh products. Steer clear of anything perfumed and wear rubber clothes to do chores. Slather with unperfumed lotion (I use my LO's excema stuff).

hope this helps.

Tippychick · 22/05/2008 11:30

NOT werewolf, I pluck that weird hair on my ching regularly I'll have ye know.

No, I'm a natural freak Etenna, nothing chemically here. Thanks tho

Have u recently had a sore throat? do u have any family history of psoriasis?

My first bad attack of guttate psoriasis stated with really itchy palms, but nothing to be seen until it started to spread a week later following a bout of tonsilitis

Sidge · 22/05/2008 13:03

Scabies?

You may be able to see a thin red track along the skin if it is.

This is weird, but it could be athlete's foot! I've had it on my hands. It's the same treatment as for feet but because we wash our hands more often it can be difficult to keep the cream on for long.

Tippychick · 23/05/2008 09:06

I had scabies before, about 10 years ago when i was a student! I remember that cream, ewwww

No sore throat fiodyl but lots of ear infections, would that help?

Still no outward sign of anything on the skin. Maybe it's all in my mind.........
