Radiologist over ruled specialist request.

I'm looking for some advice and will try and keep this saga as small as possible.

I was sent for a referral under hospital A, after seeing the specialist at hospital A, she said she has done all the tests she can do and would like to refer me to another department but the specialist will fall under hospital B, though he has clinics at hospital A.

I then see the specialist from hospital B at Hospital A and he decides he wants to collaborate with another specialist from hospital B (slightly different department from him) as he wants her opinion. After the appointment with the collaborate specialist at Hospital A she said she wants an MRI ordered with contrast, and was confused why the original specialist at hospital A had me undergo an MRI without the contrast.

The appointment for the MRI arrives quite quickly and off I attend today. The radiographer explains that the radiologist has over ruled the specialist and decided contrast is not necessary as she didn't use key words in the request. The radiographer advised me to contact the specialist after the MRI and tell her the pictures are ready to view and the radiologist overruled her for contrast. He even wrote what to say for me.

My issue is on the hospital correspondence letters for the two specialists at hospital B, all the contact information lists the information for Hospital A. When viewing information online for Hospital B I can't find their PA/Receptionist details to contact.

Any advice on how to have this information passed along to the specialists?

Radiologists often "overrule" other specialisms because they are the experts in the imaging and have far superior knowledge of the best imaging and how to obtain it. But I appreciate it must be very frustrating for you.

I'd say get in touch with PALs at either hospital and ask for contact details. It really shouldn't be up to you to feed back to your consultant!

Ring the switchboard at hospital B and for the secretary for your specialist.
Radiologists can overrule specialist requests, i work on in a hospital and have seen it a few times.

if the information that supported the need for contrast wasn't on the request then the radiologist is right to question it and it's on the consultant who requested the scan if it turns out to be inadequate - that's why it's so important that the person requesting a test (any test in fact) puts all the relevant information. The radiologist is not just there to 'do what they're told to' by the specialist - they are the specialist in imaging, and they have to balance the likely benefit of having the contrast vs the risk of side-effects from contrast. I would wait and see what the report says (because it may still give enough information...it would be an odd decision to have proceeded with the non-contrast study if they didn't think there was any chance of it showing useful information) and then go back to the requesting consultant. The visiting consultants will most likely have a secretary/some sort of admin team or clinical team on both sites and the switchboard should be able to put you through.
