Upper partial denture without palate

Has anyone had this.

i had an upper partial fitted today after my extractions and I have had to remove it as the palate felt so thick on the roof of my mouth I couldn’t talk without almost being sick and it just felt so uncomfortable.

Is it possible to have an upper partial without the palate

Yes, there are very thin metals available. I would wait until things have healed up a bit. An implant or bridge might be another option.

Yes it is possible but costly

Is this a temporary denture because my upper partial denture doesn't seem to go back far and stays in very well. When I had mine done I had to wait a few months to have my proper denture made as my gums had to shrink back down and heal properly so I had a temporary denture which was a little big as they are made quite quickly but better than nothing

I had an upper partial for a front tooth. I couldn't cope with the feeling on the palate either so my dentist cut that right back to sit at the start of the curve of the palate and made it thinned and curved so it clipped in between my canine and premolar.

Got my implant done as soon as I could though.

The partial ( immediate) acrylic denture you have just had fitted will be covering the palate as it needs the increased surface area to aid retention.
once everything has settled down and healed you will have more options.
I really like the flexi denture ( deflex) style or else a thin metal backed cobalt chrome plate. Or possibly a bridge or implants if they are an option.
the palate might be able to be adjusted a bit in the meantime, but the more you take off the looser it will get.

I really would like the flexi denture and I know it’s a lot more expense but I think it would be worth it. I really don’t think I can cope with the feeling of it in the roof of my mouth.

From the photo you have provided on your other thread I’d say you are unfortunately very short of options. You don’t have many teeth to support the denture therefore the denture will have to be more mucosal based and therefore more coverage
