Can any medics help to explain my strange medical question?

Peri menopausal, had been bleeding almost daily since Xmas 2024.

Dr referred me for trans vaginal scan and ultrasound but heard nothing as yet. Unable to have my 3 year cervical screen due to blood on cervix.

Not had an appointment date through yet, but not overly concerned because…

3 weeks ago I had a general anaesthetic for a totally unrelated issue. I have not bled since!

Any ideas why? Not that I’m complaining, but had the GA fixed my issue? 🤣

Appreciate any info before I (definitely) trouble the Dr again.

A general anaesthetic won't have any direct effect. The physiologic stress response to surgery can throw hormones on the wonk a bit so that might be an explanation. Depending on the operation they may have used tranexamic acid to help with intraoperative blood loss - some women find that helpful for heavy periods...it doesn't have a long lasting effect usually, but conceivably may have just done enough to make a difference if they did give it. I definitely wouldn't think about cancelling the scan based on any of this. (edit... just a thought though - is there any chance you were using a tampon/cup at the time and forgot about it in the post-anaesthetic period?...would probably be obvious by 3 weeks, but stranger things have probably happened!)

Thank you so much for your response.

I’m not cancelling anything (when the app eventually comes through).
I’m just puzzled and delighted to have stopped the “breakthrough” bleeding.

No sanitary products were used, I only ever used a liner in my underwear or period pants as it was never more than a “smudge” or stain and not a continuous flow, if that makes sense?
