my old boss has the same thing - although he was lucky that the drugs keep it in control and so far there is no indication of needing a heart transplant. He was about 40 when it happened to him.

I heard recently it is relatively common in young men - and it usually affects them more because they don't stop when they feel ill - they just keep pushing their bodies and stress the heart more. If it happens to older men or women - for some reason they admit they feel rotten and rest, and their body recovers without too much damage.

Hope the fluid retention sorts itself out soon.

swelling has gone down, so looking good for now, am just hoping its not gonna be a recurring thing now. he is on frusimide which makes him wee a lot, and i think he'll speak to gp about increasing that dose if needed.

its a bloody pain though because as well as feeling weak he has to keep getting up and down to the toilet! When do they think he will get an appointment at harefield for assesment misdee?

misdee · 17/01/2005 12:27

no idea. he has his ap[poitnemtn come thro for cardio at local for 24hr holter monitor, and has appt at chest clinic for his pneumonia, but nothing from harefield yet. i'll give them another week before i chase them up.

Bloody Hell Misdee ! I'd assumed that your DH was much older than you and / or had always had heart problems . I had no idea that he is soooooooo young and that his illness and decline is so very recent. How awful for you all, you do sound wonderfully strong, both of you. Hope DH feels better soon and both get a chance to relax a bit before babe arrives

Hi misdee - I just knew this would be your poor dh . Hope it goes away soon. Dd used to have a bolus dose of frusimide that we could give if she got puffy.

Mummylonglegs - sorry to hear about your dh too.

bonym · 17/01/2005 21:31

Hi misdee - just seen this thread - it does seem to be one thing after another doesn't it ? Hope dh is improving and you are coping ok with the stress. I can only imagine what you must be going through - being this pg can be hard enough without everything else you're having to cope with.Sending you hugs {{{}}}

misdee · 20/01/2005 08:19

dh ankles are still puffing up. gp wants to get rid of the pneumonia totally, then set to work on the fluid retention.
